equator is a very powerful
multi-dimensional virtual instrument
which is highly connected to the
gestures you make with your hands on the
Seaboard and by virtue of that fact it's
not enough to quickly play a few key
waves in order to really find out what
any given preset is capable of since
each preset has been designed for a
multi-dimensional expression you need to
really dig your hands in and explore the
five dimensions of touch in order to
understand the full potential of a
preset at this point in the course I'm
sure you understand how interconnected
the hardware at the software and your
hands are I recommend having equator
displayed on your computer screen while
you audition the sounds this way you'll
be able to see the response curves for
each gesture and watch the synth move
and respond to your movements my
suggestion would be to start by
experimenting with strike press and lift
on a single note and see how these
gestures connect at any given prisa
try hitting the note with a high
velocity and then a low one and see how
the sound of always when you press at
varying degrees when we open an
experiment with live then if the patch
is set to the polyphony try playing
multiple notes at once and see how that
sounds from there add in glide and slide
gestures try playing melodic lines which
have moments you can glide or slide into
then move on to doing the same thing in
a harmonic sense
lastly incorporate the XY pad into the
mix and hear what's going on with this
added modulation try traveling here me
up and down the y-axis and then
diagonally from the bottom left hand
corner of the major
a great way to search your presets is to
look around the preset browser as well
if we click here on the name of the
patch on the top of equator it will open
up the browser and we can filter our
results by clicking on the tags if I
have all selected under instruments I
can then go in and refine my results
according to sound source articulation
and Tambor this is especially helpful
when you're in a compositional workflow
as it streamlines the process of picking
sounds
