VariCAD 2016 English - Lesson 2/49 - VariCAD Files and Directories Video Lecture | VariCAD: A Fundamental Training - Design Softwares

LOL we are here for one more lesson of
these particle 2016 new training course
and this lesson is called barakat files
in folders I will start this lesson
showing you a new functionality of the
program here in this upper right corner
that basically allow us us or all the
users to verify if there is a new
version of the of the software so in my
particular case barakat is showing me
that my license is up to date but in
case you don't have the latest version
and you are on the update program or
maintenance free program
there is another message that you are
able to see here there is you have a
newer version available so please
download it or download it and install
it so it will give you the options how
to take care of this update and I'm
mentioning this update because this is
very interesting and quite convenient
and introduces me the topic of the
installation of the program regarding
the folders or directories that the
program uses Parrikar is not very
flexible on the configuration of the
different folders that uses but there is
one or two items which we can change
regarding what to use and where to use
ok
so basically if I come to these tools
menu I open the options and I come to
this function here that says list of
system directories and
the dialog box open showing you what are
the directories that my license in
particularly is using and if you open in
yours it will show you also a list so I
can come to any of these and click with
my right mouse button and I have two
options display food full partner which
appears here I can copy and use it in my
Explorer or I can open file explorer and
it will open a window showing what is
inside and then I can use the general
functions that I have in my operating
system okay she's one of the things I
can do with this function besides this
and to deal with a standard installation
of the program I can come again to this
tool menu coming to the system settings
and I have a huge amount of functions
here most of them we will see in future
lessons we have specific topics but I
would like to show you now two of those
of this list what it is these automatic
safety backups and I can enable or
disable okay I will leave them enable
and I can come to these settings of the
backup directory and saying choose a
different one

files that very card uses there are some
file formats that are becoming obsolete
so I will not speak about them but I can
show you in this file menu you
understand that all these standards
functions the new open save save as will
allow you in this case for example the
open will allow you to open different
file formats and you can see that I can
open several file formats and I can
start describing the BWB format which is
the standard valleca format and besides
I have three possible formats from where
I can import geometry to the or 3d from
other systems so I have the step file
which allow me to import 3d geometry and
this is I can say that probably at this
moment it's the most important 3d file
format for exchanging information
between CAD software and I have for the
2d the DWG format which is a 2d format
and is well known for being the AutoCAD
file format so in fact I can import
directly AutoCAD file without problems
and I have generic 2d format which is
the excel okay allow me to import from
other 2d programs these are the things I
can import and I can save also different
file formats in this case a little more
okay again I can save in very standard
format the DWP then I can save in step
again for the 3d I have these functions
this option sorry these options with
sections this is not very important and
in fact it is only important for in
several in some cases for rendering
software so I will not mention much
about this for now at least I have the
IDS also with the same option with
sections the edges is also fourth it's
mainly a 3d file format in this moment
it's becoming obsolete also because
everybody is using the step I will leave
this for for last I have again the DWG
so I can import from AutoCAD and I can
export to AutoCAD and again the DXF for
to be entities for other CAF programs
also besides Patoka apart from all these
i have a new a new considering that i

during the opening I have this file
former the STL also with the options
with sections over I don't consider this
but I have this STL which in fact it is
very used for 3d printing and some
systems use this format also for making
machining so cam software this is no
more no less than three sorry these

precise or less precise okay it depends
on the specification you give when you
export the file so basically these are
the format's that you can work with for
example I will make
an example which is a new function
called batch file conversion a new
function for what we are talking about a
new function in the software if I invoke
this function I can make a batch
conversion see the options here okay I
will use this simple one very card two
step three D and I can say save
converted files in I will say for
example I will put them here okay and I
will use these guys here and make
convert and okay it will start convert
everything for that file I can try to
open them okay step files all inside so
this is a functionality interesting if
you have a big amount of files to
convert to finish this lesson I would
like to show you also in the system
settings there are a couple of specific
functions to work with this conversion
of files so for example the DWG DXF
input you have a couple of things you
can define so you in terms of the units
you can have an automatic detection or
say millimeters inches and regarding
because we are talking about to the
entities about options how to deal for
example with the font used I will not
say that this is better this is worse it
depends on the results you have and if
you have a bad result with a conversion
of a file please try the other option or
chain
the text fund okay so in the output you
have a little different type of settings
and this is quite important in terms of
the DWG which is the function which is
the version of the AutoCAD you use this
is a little the same way as I was
mentioning before if you have bad
results with one version please come and
use another version usually older
versions these are quite old but for
example AutoCAD 2004 2007 are very
stable versions so if you have not so
good results with these latest ones use
around 2004 2007 and probably you should
have better results the same for the DXF
output and how to deal with the file
code page okay usually you should use
default okay
so regarding the language of the system
and up with support blocks I mentioned
tolerances splines or polylines and they
mention these topics here because these
are particular entities that usually can
have some degree of problem okay this is
regarding 2d you see here regarding 3d
we also have a couple of definitions
first the step input again the same
possibilities trying something cannot
step output you have a little more
control so you can describe the curves
and patches these are entities from
the 2d and 3d files analytic or nerves
usually nerves are a good process to to
write the files the protocol another one
or the latest plan and how to towards
put the units and in steps file ok
recommended as uses in in vertical now
regarding the STL you see I was
mentioned that you have the precision on
the triangles so you can export a lower
medium or high precision and you have a
definition for what is more or less
precise again I will not tell you this
is better than this one it depends on
what you are doing probably if you are
exporting to something that will make 3d
printing probably the majority of of
party make sport this low may be enough
if you were exporting a file for a
milling software probably this is the
best option because of the precision it
depends so written the dot and
millimeters are in inches how to deal
with the coordinates and the format of
the the coordinates inspiration or usual
so it depends a little of the place or
the system where you are going to read
the file that is being exported this is
a little in some of the of the topics is
a little do and try ok and this is
something that is becoming not so
important so probably will be obsolete
in
version so these an important settings
but because we are working with a step
input so don't care much about this
function here so for this lesson in
particular I think everything is
explained this is a little more short
and as I told you there are some file
formats of the parka that are becoming
obsolete so I will not mention them so I
