Hatch Revisited - Some workarounds when doing floor plans Video Lecture | LibreCAD: Become an Expert - Design Softwares

I got a letter from an email from a
listener or watcher of these videos and
he's having problems he's doing a a
floor plan of an existing house or
building and he's having problems with
hatching and I know all about that
because I've had exactly the same
problems myself in the past I can't say
I know all about his but I did the best
I could to help him out so I'm gonna
share this with everybody
kay often when you're doing a floor plan
you got the inside dimensions of a room
so I took some inside dimensions of a
room here one that I'm currently working
on and I didn't draw all the closets in
the doorway in the window that's just
added complications for our purposes
today so I just threw a box and I got it
in American dimensions because by God
I'm an American
no it's just that that's the way we do
things here so for you over in other
countries the dimensions would probably
be done in meters or millimeters and
then you'd also do everything in decimal
units not in our crazy American system a
rough did rough dimensions here which is
good enough for the purposes that we're
doing okay often you do the inside
dimensions of the room and then you're
going to offset what I call offset draw
a parallel line to show the actual
thickness of the walls so we'll say
these walls are
four and a half inches wide which is
probably about right so we'll offset
each one of these to make the walls and
then we will need to extend those lines
so that they join so we'll do an
extension here but then here's what it
really usually bites you in the hind
side is that often you've extended these
lines this way whoops
I did the wrong one back
and so now I've got nothing is really a
closed entity here where it's hard to
get a closed entity and I got one more
to extend two more lines to extend one
more side because I've got these
overlapping lines or these corners and I
kind of showed that in the video the
problem was that what I did in my
previous hatched video I used rectangles
to do this okay none of this will really
want a hatch and if we tried to do it
let's say I want a hatch this wall right
here I'm going to the right and we'll
you solid hatch
it won't hats because it says that I do
not have a entity chosen close the
entity invalid hatch area okay I'm gonna
show you a couple workarounds now you
got two corners for each wall and what I
want to show you on the the workarounds
here is only one corner just have to
remember that you'd have to do it for
both corners for a particular wall and
you may want to do this with these
overlapping lines because for instance
let's say this wall is connected to a
bathroom and it might be a six inch wall
instead of a four inch wall so a
lost-time spacing for the plumbing
outside wall may be longer or wider it
may have brick on brick veneer or it may
have something else on it so it all
depends on now everything's finished and
so you end up with a lot more
complicated surface than what I got with
this simple box okay we're going to go
to the one that I sent to him
to show my work around okay we've got
this original corner and it will not hat
and I used some different colors here to
make things a little more explicit so I
drew the walls layer zero and what I can
do is if I turn off this hats red
temporarily you see what I did was I
erased those overlapping lines that may
or may not work for you because you may
need to keep those lines for some reason
so if we then I just did a case here
where I only eliminated one line so I
wanted to show the full wall going all
the way through so which wall was nailed
of which one I so if I try to hatch that
and let's turn back on hats red I tried
to hatch that so I do a select I select
this whole thing it will not hats
because I did not select this line right
here so we'll select that line now okay
we've selected that line the problem is
that it selected the whole line across
and it will not have because of that and
we'll do natural red I'm too late but
anyhow I will not hatch so what you have
to do often to beat this stuff as I'm
showing the steps up here and I actually
will provide this on this DXF on my
website when I do this as a post as well
as a video step one you want to
eliminate this line up here at the top
okay step two you have to trim this line
at the bottom
okay and then what we'll do is that
we'll then use a two-point blind I'll
show you the example that and we'll
attach it to the ends of these and I
create that green line right there
I'll undo that to leave this back the
way it was originally and then that's
what I did right there by creating that
line now I have to do the same trim for
this other line and then create it as a
separate line right here normally I
would be doing that in the same level
that whatever I drew the wall in but I
did it in green on here just to show you
to make it to clarify what I am clarify
it so that you can see what I'm doing
okay now that I have done that I can
hatch each of these parts and let's say
let's just create a new hatch that's a
little modified layer I went well with
this hatching in green
okay so I'll hatch and I can now hatch
this when I do the vertical one I select
I should have done it with one dose
let's do it with
I'm sorry about that okay now it's a
selected hatch select the parts and
you'll see I have to select these two
small lines right now now I have a
closed entity and I can hatch it and it
hatched
okay let's undo that hatch and now if I
wanted to do the vertical or the
horizontal part I can do the same thing
I select the four sides and I can hatch
that so that's your workaround it's a
pain when you're doing a whole big whole
big layout on a house all your windows
usually you draw those with a little bit
of wider offset to show the window
frames do something to denote that it's
a window there and that means that
you're trying to break every one of
those lines it gets old and early but it
is just the way it is and that's my
experience doing a layout on a house
floor plan on a house there's not a lot
of fun but hey it it's something to do I
guess right so appreciate you listening

sometimes this is a glass of wine can
help to make this stuff tolerable but it
it's a whole lot better than hand
drafting so it's just the way it is by
the way the other CAD programs are no
better from what for my experience they
may be better now that they're they keep
improving but the fact that you're using
a free cat here with Lee Birkhead is not
what the problem is it's just a problem
with hatching the computer doesn't know
what an area is when you have these
lines like this over here so it's just
part of it I'm sound like it's just
tough it's just is the way it is
