starting with origin 2016 graphing and
analysis features an origin can be
extended by installing apps the tools
apps on file exchange menu item displays
a selection of apps as well as an item
to open the file exchange website let's
choose a particular entry from the menu
maps online this opens a web page for
that app where details of the app
including instructions on how to install
and use the app are all documented when
you decide to install an app simply
download the file which is a single opx
file open the folder and just drag and
drop the opx file on to origin all
installed apps display as icons in the
apps gallery window which is dark below
when you place the cursor over a
particular icon it displays the name the
current app version and a description
when a new version of the app is
available it is indicated by a red dot
on the icon as well as in the Tools menu
an asterisk in front of the app name
let's look at one of the apps in this
case tangent so with a graph active
simply click the icon to launch the app
this particular app opens a dialog let's
accept defaults and it places a vertical
cursor object which I can reposition on
my active curve and simply click new
output to generate information or the
tangent line and close the app you will
notice that depending on what window
type is active the apps that are
available may change so when I have a
metrics window active the tangent app is
not available but some other app is
available to uninstall an app simply
select the icon and right click and
choose on and star you can also
open the webpage for that app from this
context menu so you could read more
about the app submit your comments or
your review from the tools menu you can
also open the main file exchange webpage
which has been redesigned to allow you
to search for apps and other tools and
browse and download and install we are
