hi in this video of GIMP beginner's
guide we're gonna take a look at our
scissors select tool now this tool is
powerful it's useful we take a moment
how we can use it in a second before we
do that let's take a look at the options
here this is familiar to select subtract
add to selection intersect anti lining
feather edges again this here is a new
option interactive boundary I'll show
you in a second what that means
now how you select with this too is just
click and click again and when you want
to close the selection you have to get
this indication over the Caesar Caesars
icon here so click on it then to apply
the selection you have to press ENTER or
to press here in the middle of the
selection as disliked let's make a
simple selection again also when you
have made a selection if you want to
escape it just press Escape key make a
new one you can also after you close the
selection add new points or move these
points any way you want
that's this like that now let's try to
select this letter P here let's click
here click here if we turn the
interactive boundary on when you click
you get to see where the selection
actually will go
it's entirely up to you if you want to
see this on that
let's close the selection

let's now commit to it now here I'm
going to introduce something new it's
called the quick mask mode but it's
located here in the main window
this indicates that zooming which part
you have selected in which parts are not
selected the D is in red here are not
selected what is we actually see in the
image that is selected as you can see
here who haven't made a very good
selection but we can use this quick mask
mode in our brush tool to refine this
selection and make it as good as
possible but this will be a subject to
another video after we cover our
foreground select tool just know it's
here because it can be frustrating you
have your scissors like to again again
you can make a good enough selection
none of these tools are perfect you have
to switch in between them and use this
quick mask mode to be able to make a
perfect selection easily in quickly
