hi this video will conclude my tutorials
on gimp 2.8 preferences let's go to the
edit menu and select preferences the
last option is folders and if we click
here to expand this you will see that we
have a lot of folders now there is one
very useful thing here when you select
one of the folders for example brushes
you can see the location of the brushes
on your hard drive so if you are
creating custom brushes you can come
here and see where those brushes are
located and you can go ahead and save
your brushes in this location and that
way they will appear in GIMP you can
also change the location or add
different locations you can also delete
them so basically with these options you
can tell them where to look for brushes
patterns gradient and so on and
something else maybe you have noticed
that you cannot delete brushes gradients
patterns that come with GIMP if you
select them you notice that this delete
this pattern for example option is
greyed out you cannot select it you
cannot delete these patterns so the way
to do it is you can go to the location
and delete the pattern from there and I
don't recommend actually deleting
anything that comes with GIMP but if you
do create a lot of custom brushes
gradients and patterns you may want to
free up some space by deleting some of
these now there is something here that
confuses a lot of users this tick over
here doesn't mean that GIMP is looking
for patterns only in this location GIMP
is looking for patterns in both of these
locations but this tick means here that
this the pattern stored in this location
are writable this means that you can
delete these patterns and the one that
come with GIMP are actually stored in
this location the one that is not
writable and that's why we cannot delete
them
the padrone's brushes and gradients you
create in GIMP go in this location and
the one that come with GIMP are stored
in here so for example if I go to
gradients and select one of the
gradients that come with GIMP you can
see that I can't delete it but if i
duplicate it you see that now I can
delete it this is because this gradient
now is stored in this writable location
so I can just press Delete and delete
this gradient that I just created so
there are two ways to delete stuff that
comes with GIMP you can find the
location and then delete it from there
or you can take this writable click OK
and have to restart GIMP and then you
have the option to delete the gradient
patterns and brushes that come with GIMP
but it's a good idea to leave this
unchecked and make sure you don't delete
anything by accident and the rest of the
options here are pretty easy to use you
can add a new location then you can use
the file selector to browse for a
location and that's pretty much all for
