C# Xna Made Easy Tutorial 35 - Loading Maps [Intermediate] Video Lecture | C# Game Development: Game Making made Easy (English)

hello everybody and welcome to your next
tutorial so on this tutorial we're going
to be learning how to load maps a bit
better than the last tutorial some of
you might say this is eager in the last
tutorial but the concept is is better
it's better to handle or from the last
tutorial so and I hope hopefully this
video won't be as long well anyways um
before what would our map what we did is
that we declared our dimensions at the
beginning right and that was that was
cool and all but sometimes say you have
a designer or something you have a
really large map and it designing a
really large map for you or something
sometimes you might not know where you
don't want to count all the dimension
there's single time you add some to the
map it could be very sometimes your map
won't display properly because you don't
have in the right dimensions and so on
and so forth so with this method right
here we're going to be loading we're
going to be finding out the width and
the height of the we're going to be
finding out the width of the map and
we're going to be drawing it based on
the width of the map and then we'll find
the height eventually so the downside to
this and the last method is that say you
want one section on the map to be longer
than the other it's not possible to do
so but in the next tutorial I'll show
you how to handle that but anyway so or
not what we're going to do is that we're
not going to specify dimension now we're
going to figure out the dimension want
to learn the maps okay so what we need
to do right now is that we're going to
go into our load content okay so what
we're going to do is that we're going to
open our reader so stream leader and
what we're going to do is that we're
going to read the line and we're going
to we're going to do Rita da tree line
we're going to trim the end and we're
going to set the dimension instead of
splitting the line what we're going to
do is that we're going to
sorry we're going to trim all these
spaces okay so erase this and our
dimension x is going to be equal to line
lens so we're going to be equal to the
length of that line okay now we're going
to do is that we're going to read it our
clothes so we're going to close that
reader so then again so now we want to
start from the top of the screen because
base the top of the test fall so
basically we read this text file and
then if we were to use user reader again
what we'd be doing will start reading
from the second line etc etc etc so we
don't we don't want to do that so what
we're going to do is that we're going to
make another screen reader and we're
going to open up the file name again and
there is ways to set the pointer back to
the beginning the test file so you can
do that if you want if you don't want to
close and reopen it again it's up to you
so we're going to say we're going to
change all of these from reader to read
so what we're going to do is that we're
going to do this where we read the line
then we children etc etc so now we have
our map size x so we have the size of
our arm at the width of our map but we
don't know the height of the map and
we're not going to figure out the height
of the map until we're done drawing so
what we need to do is that after we do
this while loop all if you do is that
we'll just set dimensions dot y is equal
to line index and that is it so
basically our line index is going to
count up to how many lines there are in
our program okay and then our dimensions
y is going to be equal to how many lines
are within our program so if we were to
run this program right now the exact
with the exact same drug hold and
everything it should run the same way
so our code runs exactly the same as
before so now we've loaded it without
actually specifying our dimensions we
figure out the dimensions on our own so
