C++ Allegro 5 Made Easy Tutorial 12 - Loading Images Video Lecture | Allegro: A Complete Guide - Game Development

hello everybody and welcome to your
twelfth level five tutorials so in this
tutorial we're gonna be loading in
images and uh what we've been doing
before we've been using shapes and stuff
like that and different things but you
can only do so much with those
eventually when you're making a game
you're gonna want to include some type
of image or sprites or whatever right so
I'm gonna be teaching how to load an
image is this tutorial and then for the
next like few tutorials we're gonna be
learning on undoing sprite animation
okay so first of all what you want to do
is we're gonna put your sprite into your
project folder so what do I mean by the
project folder well the project folder
um could be different depending on on
which IDE or compiler using okay so for
for Visual Studio or Visual C++ whatever
what you want to do is go to your the
folder where your your projects name so
my name I project folders : in a level 5
you click that and then you'll be
greeted with this folder this page and
you'll click the learn um the projects
name folder again then you put your
image file in there so right now I put
in a PNG file format and for those of
you who are coming from I let go for a
level 5 supports PNG files along with
bitmaps and other false formats if you
want unless you can look at the let grow
document page or whatever so you put in
this folder if you're say like using dev
C++ or a col blocks whatever you put the
image in the same folder as your other
CPP files so basically whatever your CPP
files are or wherever your game files
are that's what you want to play your
image ok so I have my image in there so
a PNG file format and what I'm gonna do
first of all we have to include the
drawing functions so what I'm going to
do the level 5
I'm going to do a leg row on the score
image dot H okay so we need to include
the image on H so we can use it now with
what most includes first of all we have
to initialize it so ill and net image
and on okay so we initialized our our
image and on and now only want to do
something okay so now what we're gonna
do is our images in an electron five are
called bitmaps okay even though they
even though you can use PNG s and type
formats and other type formats or
they're called bitmaps and one thing to
notice now with a level five is that
although the new methods and stuff for
our long and stuff you should notice a
pattern with them whenever you're using
making a variable that just clear with
the allegro library you'll notice that
all of them are of uppercase value right
and you'll notice that whenever it's
declaring a variable or something like
that whatever it will be it'll be
uppercase and we'll start off with the
word Allegro in it so if you know if you
know that you want to create a bitmap
remember you have to put a letter O
underscore and then whatever you're
trying to create so that's a thing that
you should know as well and for other
methods and functions or whatever that
the electrode uses normally it will be
al in lowercase letters representing
Allegro underscore whatever you're doing
whatever method it is so that's just a
little thing to remember in case like
you kind of forget what the function
calls are or whatever so anyways we
created our player and it has to be
appointed to the player and because of
honored we have to destroy it after so
what we're gonna do is do a load bitmap
and it takes one parameter it just takes
a wherever the file is located so player
image one dot PNG okay so before we do
anything else or what we're gonna do is
we're going to
or being up so we don't forget to do
that so we don't end up with any memory
leaks so destroy bitmap and we're going
to destroy the player been up okay so we
loaded in our bitmap and now we want to
draw it okay so this is we're still
gonna be using the mouse cursor anyways
but what I'm gonna do just do ale and
draw bitmap and the bin our drawings
player and our exposition so X Y and for
flags there's two flags you can do like
allegro underscore flip horizontal or
you can flip vertically so you can you
can you can flip the image if you like
and the flags etc etc so or I'm not sure
hold on let me check yeah I was correct
I put the number 0 here instead of doing
oh so yeah like a flip horizontal flip
the image horizontally and if you do
that girl under scroll slip on your
vertical it'll flip the image vertically
but if you don't want to do anything
then you can just do null hair now with
the mouse in the last tutorial the DX
and dy represented the displacement or
whatever since the last frame but with
this with a player the DX and dy
represents the players our actual
position so if we run this program so
whatever our mouse moves that's what our
player moves and I know this image is
whatever it's kind of big for a mouse
cursor whatever but what I'm doing is
that I'm using this image because we're
using this in the next tutorial in order
to do sprayer animation so basically
that is it for this tutorial well if you

description where you can go and make a
sprite sheet like this so you can
utilize it for the next tutorial
