if you're looking for a song to impress
girl you have come to the wrong place my
friends because we are learning how to
plays at Super Mario Brothers theme
we're going to break it into an intro in
four parts and it's going to sound a
little bit like this so fantastic theme
song obviously I'm going to link you to
a tab but I really want you to try to
not use the tab and just try to give
these parts down and then kind of figure
out ways to memorize each part which
we're going to talk a little bit about
okay so it starts out with an iconic
intro which is just here so all it is is
you sort of a high string three times
one be back to the open E string the G
on the E string third fret and the lower
G right so these notes to be ii ii ii c
e g g now if you know about for building
all that is is a c major Koerner these
ease and G's no matter how you play them
this is kind of like a melody built
around a C major chord right in fact you
can kind of keep it in a chord position
so one thing to talk about is kind of
how to help you memorize these by just
thinking of chords in you play alright
so if you just stick in the C shape
you can play it just like that right
budget adding the G to the seat
all right so honestly yeah you can
probably just stop there because you
really just want to prove that you can
play the Mario theme and usually if you
get that part they're really not going
to press you on it most of the time but
I think it's a valuable thing to try
this long and learn the rest of it right
let's just be in trouble and also too if
you want you can kind of end with a G
chord because even though we can just
built around a C chord we end on a G
note we could replace that open G with
the G chord like all right so it's kind
of a way to kind of dress up a single
note melody line by adding chords to it
which you can kind of do it any kind of
song right so we're going to think of
that as the intro in the next the next
part is part one and part one it sounds
like this so again we're still thinking
of a C major chord so if we start in
just a c-major chord and we have to be G
C we're going to get the first part of
that risk which is really one be open G
to G now when I play I don't play like
this
I'm not sure how many times I played the
song in general in my day-to-day life
probably more than I should but anyways
I would still play it like this this
because that when you're outside of a
chord change you have more tonal options
and how you can kind of approach those
notes but in my head I'm thinking of a C
chord going backwards through us and
then into the next alright so one be
open G to G down a string to g f2 d201
via open G to D to G be 3/2 on the d
trigger and this next part of this
section goes so all is it's a G open e35
then 1 3 open up a string 1 3 open so a
lot of memorizing like longer lyrical
type melodious songs comes down to how
you choose to memorize the pieces of
instead of always having to be on a tab
that's why I kind of like thinking of it
you can kind of see a pattern you start
with the gia e 3 5 1-3 open 1 3 open so
you just take one part like a phrase one
free open and move it up a string there
are always kind of just moving pieces
around ok so again that section sounds
like this G open 3 5 1-3 open once we
open that happens again
that's going to bring us to the second
section right so we have this kind of
chromatic walk starting on the G a nice
ring 3 1 4 B there was some kind of
almost in like a scale position alright
3 2 1
for beer e g string 1 2 1 B 2 G's 1 B 3
B ok so 3 2 1 for b e 1 2 1 G 1 3
there's the same thing ever we change
the next 4 so 3 2 1 B and then you guess
slide into that see this is the key of C
so the C note is very important one will
just you know it said all right we're
gonna slide into the 8th fret of the
high string I mean same thing again and
then we're here um it's the 3rd fret of
the B string cheese idea
we're just gonna slide score 3-1 okay so
it's the whole part all right now the
next part is we're going to actually go
off the tab that I linked because I want
to kind of showcase how you can use the
pentatonic scale to a minor pentatonic
scale which goes well and the key of C
because it's the relative minor in a way
that you can train your ears to play the
next bar right so now you can play this
exact same thing up here but we're going
to do it here in the a minor pentatonic
position just as an example of how you
can kind of use a scale shape and play
around inside there alright so this is a
great way to use your ear because the
the notes are so close together you're
going up or down so the good way to
start playing by ear
from a scale shape so we're going to
start in a minor pentatonic we never
have to leave this for this part and
we're going to start on the fifth fret
of the g string
one two three four and a fifth oh you go
seven and then up to five be straight on
so and then you go to the D string
seventy five so really challenge
yourself to kind of hear the notes in
the pentatonic scale to get these

descending the scale and backwards and
then the intro
or the G chord right and the last part
the part that sounds most like a plumber
to me for whatever reason sounds like
this so again we're thinking of a C
major Gordon Bowers taking the bottom
three strings right so e1 beef which is
a c-note G backwards
yeah there you go on the D string
one to those 1qg all the way to one - a
good way to string skips if you're
looking at picking or you move your foot
your fingers either way then we go
be open be - five five five three one e1
b qg g okay the next time so same way so
the next part is after the backwards
speed we're gonna go be 1 1 1 open 3 B 1
B which is a C and then end on C chord
ok so long time altogether we're gonna
start with the intro super slow and then
the backwards C 1 3 1 1 3 open backwards
in the next part of the chromatic
backward slide 54 3 1 and hang scale

backward be pasta sauce 3-1-1 backwards
be a one-on-one open three 1c so they
have it of one of the great theme songs
of all time and a great way to kind of
train your ear through chords and scales
to put a melody together so I hope you
