welcome everyone to the exercise number
eight in this exercise we will
concentrate on curling data um selecting
data and also finding and hyperlinking
data so first of all I have already
opened the exercise animator which
contains three layers
they're called streets neighborhood
parcels and other parcels so let's
assume maybe you have a little agency
which capacity or which will
administrate the information about these
parcels and there's a card going on
going over and say well I would like to
buy a parcel which is concealed or which
lies on a corner in that area so how to
select these features you will have the
identifier function to get an idea about
the feature so well let's say this
parcel belongs to mr. David our castle
eNOS and there's a property number you
have information about the number of
bedrooms etcetera etc but you would like
to select all from all corner parcels
first of all in the normal setup of
ArcGIS if you identify feature there's
always a multiple selection of of shapes
in your work your new project so you can
adjust that by clicking on selection and
selection options which will give you
some possibility to adjust the selection
tolerance by well because all the
default values 5 pixels let's assume
that will show you home how this
influences the result you can see I've
just clicked once and I will get six
different results around my clicking
location from the pointer so I will
adjust that back to zero pixels
no no that was wrong Oh maybe go yes
taking the default of 0 so the moment
when I'm clicking somewhere the exact
location is determined on my on my
desktop and we'll get in alright that
and an overview about the attributes of
the corresponding polygons what else can
you do
first of all you'd like to select all
features that are on a corner so they
are possible or they are different or
interactive selection methods first of
all all the defaults create new
selection so when I'm selecting a
feature with that tool select features
by rectangle maybe I'm selecting this
had a new selection is that one if you
change that back to or to add to current
selection you will have something like
an ongoing selection process so I'm
after selected this one I'll select this
one once more this this and this which
will go on until you stop selecting
process but we will clear selected
features and we'll stick back to the
create new selection because I would
like to use the shift key to get a list
of selected features so well now just
select all the features that are located
on corner
so this this this alright not this but
this
I think we are finished now yep all the
corners often all selected and you can
see now the attributes of that by
clicking on open attribute table now
only selected features are shown in that
attribute table in our case there just
eight of 5510 features selected so you
won't find it hard to get an overview
about them about the values or whatever
would have happened to you now oh
it I will just go back and I have to do
the selection process again so stay here
with me give me this one and one more
more I think for a lot of corners
available in that area so
here we are so now no one mores missing
where is it was the same with you so
there it is
now we have reflected our age parcels
yeah normally if you have well selected
500 or 1000 features you would like to
get an overview a quick overview about
your data so you some kind of ordering
will be very helpful now you can order
are the features by just clicking on the
title of one attribute like the sale
price right clicking on that name and
say what I would like to make it sorta
scanning so low as possible prices
eighty-three thousand for a house with
two bedrooms wall square feet one
thousand two hundred and one and a half
bathrooms and no pool available and the
highest price is 166 thousand so this is
one possibility to better get a better
idea about the data just by ordering
your data now um close that view again
and one more thing is maybe well you are
interested in finding an address
well client has already and then the
idea about the address here as a visit
to the location you would like to find
that so there is a possibility to choose
the find function here and well let's
say you would like to find a location
called 831 Washington Street which
should be available in not all visible a
has bird in neighborhood parcels this
selection means that you will decrease
the area or did decrease the amount of
data you have to search for which is
quite useful if you have a lot of
features available in your project so
now just reduce the search locations to
neighbor parcels and I would like to
search normal in all four
but in one certain file which if I
filled in all fields
I would left searching in a field called
of course address and now I'm doing
searching for all addresses which are
similar or contains this search string
and there's just one possible - location
found and by right-clicking on that I
will have an overview about how to flash
it so there's a flash on that location
you can pan to which concentrate the
view on that you can also use zoom to
which is quite uncommon because if you
click there well a big big polygon is
then accessible so we'll just go back to
that view and this is a quite common and
useful tool to search for addresses for
field IDs like well parcel numbers or
something like that but if you would if
you would find something like this and
the number of bedrooms well you know
it's good to search for form distinct
strings but not for that kind of values
where you have okay I am now listed here
all features that are or that have two
bedrooms available um well it's not that
good to get an overview about that field
so I will get to this problem in the
next video by selecting using SQL
statements so this isn't for the moment
by using the point function one more
thing is there's this hyperlink feature
or the hyperlink function you can not
only store strings and numbers in your
shape files as we have done it here you
can also store meter data or images or
documents as a hyperlink in your data so
there's this
column called image there's a relational
pop called to a folder called data and
there's a link available which will
present something like an image about
the house so what we can do is we can
double click on that and there's a
possibility to use hyperlinks and
support hyperlinks by using a distinct
field in our case it is called image and
it is in hyperlink to document so by
clicking ok the app link function is now
available by using that you will have a
new surrounding this blue line and you
can now have a view on the document with
your default file type Association probe
associated program in our cases image
preview this is the example from the
book and so you can easily get or save
information also to your to your data in
ArcGIS and it's very very useful to get
a better idea about what is your what is
your this polygon about so you can go to
your custom and say well there's this
there's the image about the front of the
house you can you will have an idea
about the house itself and the
corresponding gone and maybe which it's
worth the price or something like that
