hello everyone with this very short
tutorial today I would like to show you
how to split and merge polygons and this
is really a very easy task
um your showing you the exercise number
16 B of the book getting to know how she
is and we will just visit first parcel
sort this parcel so that should be split
up in fact there are two vertex as shown
located here in the year and they serve
as the splitting point for this polygon
so just first of all I will select this
one and I will have a look in the in the
attributes of this one so parcel number
2707 the shape area at the moment is one
hundred and seven thousand square feet I
think and yeah so how to do that first
of all of course we need their editor
toolbar for those of you who don't know
that just click on this shiny a tiny
tiny button here which will open the
editing or you can go over customize
toolbars and search for the editor
toolbar in the list so we will start the
editing process and first of all we need
to of course select this one yes you can
see we can check around it but we don't
want to drag it we want to split it so
what we will need for that as well as
the vertex snapping for those who don't
know check out my first videos how to
create features and off and another
thing is we need to cut polygon tools so
double click on that on that polygon
will show us the vertexes so these both
latexes will serve as the pulley as the
cutting line cell we will stick with
thee with this vertex and with a second
vertex by double clicking on it you see
now that the we got this
wrote a polygon and this polygon as well
so these are now two polygons but one
thing is still very critical in our case
due to the fact that we are working here
with ites and the idea of this thing of
this new thing is could be the object ID
but also the parcels ID should be
identical so we will now just sort that
one I think we should sort disc ending
and we'll go on the 2707 there should be
now two entrances or to want to same
values here and we will give the newer
one the bigger one which is or this is a
smaller one this one is a bigger one so
this was first and we will give it here
another a new parcels ID biggest parcel
idea now at the moment is three four
five eight so where it is three four
five eight so this could be three four
five nine in the moment or we can try to
give it to 7 or 7 B but as you see it
should be a whole number so we need to
use 3 4 5 9 as the new parcels ID so
this is a little bit different from the
book but I would like you to keep that
in mind by splitting polygons you have
to make sure that the object identifier
in our case it should be the parcels ID
in fact you can well keep in mind
taxation which is a parcel I do I have
the possible ID 27 or 700 you have just
500 square feet that's fine so don't
have to pay so much taxes but in fact
there are two parcels or they where two
parcels with the same ID let's go now to
the second example in that in that
exercise which is located here on the
second parcel side
and I don't know exactly which to oh we
have the bigger of the biggest parcels
here two eight six one and two eight
five five should be merged as you can
see there's one building located on that
parcel and due to that fact we need to
merge them the same as over here and
here so this would be an exercise for
you to merge these both features so what
we will do is we will select this one
pressing ctrl o no pressing the upper
key and selecting the other one and now
these both can can be merged therefore
we need to find the merge function there
it is merge and now we have to choose
the feature with which other features
will be merged so what was the first one
I am always a friend of the lower ID so
we'll select 28.5 now the new feature ID
is 2 8 5 5 and you can have a looking on
they identify and the new shape area is
also calculated and shape length as well
seven three-point-four let's have a
little comparison to they 2 8 6 9 so
this one is a little bit bigger
so yeah very short introduction stay
