so I want to show you how to quickly and
easily create a nice-looking cut and
fill exhibit for your earthwork
quantities I also want to show how to
create an extended label so a label that
will reference your existing ground one
that references your finished ground and
it also references your difference in
between the two so one label the
reference is three different things
there so the first step is to create a
10 volume service I have my existing
ground I have my finished ground so I'm
going to create that third surface so
I'm just going to right click on
surfaces create surface instead 10
surface I want to call this 10 ball or
create this 10 volume surface and we're
just going to call it volume okay I'm
going to leave my style just add border
and triangles for now my base surface
going to be my existing ground
comparison surface going to be my
finished ground and if I wanted to I
could apply a cut or a fill factor I'm
not going to just leave it at 1 and hit
OK
ok so it's created that volume surface
so I can come in here to volumes I can
right click and go to surface properties
and go to analysis and my analysis type
on the leave of elevations and number of
range is going to be 8 so I'm just going
my down arrow and it's going to come in
here and I have a blue thing going on
here so I can come in and I can change
the either go by this let's say - 3 - so
I'm just going to even these up real
quick hey and I like to see my my
maximum cuts in a red color and I can
change these all these colors if I
wanted to I come in and maybe I want all
my cuts to be a shade of red so oranges
yellows and it's do little green there
so we do that I'm going to go to my
information tab make sure my make sure
my surface style is equal to my analysis
all my statistics I can come in here and
I can look at the volume and see what
that earthwork is so I'm going to right
click and copy to clipboard we're going
to save that for later so just going to
hit copy to clipboard
make sure my style again such elevation
and hit okay hazel brings that up I'm
going to select it and just send that to
the back or one thing in civil 3d 2011 I
can come into my layers and make a
transparency so I'm going to do that I'm
going to go into my layer manager and
find that layer I'm going to set a
transparency to 65 about that okay so I
said transparency to it and so instead
of sending that to the back and having a
solid I just put a transparency to that
layer kind of adding another flavor to
my exhibit okay so I've got my colors in
there I've got my cut and fill done I
want to create a table so I'm gonna go
to surfaces you add legend table and
pick my surface and going to right-click
pick it from the list and I want an
elevation table dynamic I'm just going
to place it right over here okay so I've
got that table and everything is dynamic
to my surface so if I make a change that
analysis again my table is updated
previously I right clicked in my
properties and I wouldn't copy to
clipboard I'm just going to hit control
V or I'm going to right click go
clipboard and paste and that will paste
in that information from those
properties so I'm just going to come
into that and I don't really care about
all the general or my ten I basically
just want my volume information right so
just like word editor I can come in here
and I can edit all this stuff I know I
can make this a little bit bigger
underline it you know I can do different
things if I if I wanted to give it my
net okay so I can come in there and I
can add that information pretty that up
so I can quickly create a cut and fill
exhibit if I want to go a little bit
further I want to label it with some
tick marks with the I want to label my
volume surface with the finished ground
elevation the existing ground and the
difference so I'm gonna go to my
settings tab and
look at these surface labels
