in this video I will show the data
binding and data driven testing
capabilities of tests to do first of all
I have a simple web test which navigates
to us to a login page and walks in data
binding in test studio can happen on two
levels
the first level is step so on a step
level we can data bind you can data bind
for example input field the value of
input field or you can get by for
example the expected value for the
verification I will data bind here the
user name for this one in form there are
several options first of them is using
the walk of data we have a local
database that provide and so you can
you can use it if you don't want do
something external so when I have this
database created I can data bind this
step with a let's say first calm and I
can create second calm for the password
so that I can data bind
the password as well so when I execute
the test now I will execute two
iterations the first one is the first
row of the code of the database and
second one is the second one
the second row so here you can see two
iterations and you can switch between
them and see the walk so in that way you
can iterate through many values for
input fields from verifications or other
steps and have only one step for
verifying a lot of values the other
options for data binding our excel file
see if our XML file or using external
database so you can connect to the
various kinds of databases and updated
servers that may serve us and using a
database there of course you can use
Excel CSV XML file as well the data
binding the other way to data bind is a
little bit more advanced it is to data
bind an element so for those two
elements for the username and the
password
I have expression which is built by the
tag name and the ID for password to have
tag name and ID so for those two
elements elements the only difference is
the ID or difference in the fun
expression so I can actually data bind
one of those elements and
when I do that it will data bind the
Phoenix define expression and it will
iterate through several elements so I
will use more of my local database that
West comes and username and password
which is country so this element the tag
name is input but the idea is country
okay and now
now on using this element I can iterate
through both of those elements so if I
delete this step I just want to add I
just want to add one value inside
several elements so I'll use only one
step and I can iterate to all the
elements on my web page this is very
useful if you have similar elements a
lot of similar elements on your web page
and instead of for example if you have
20 elements instead of adding 20
different steps you can just data bind
that one element and with only one step
you can iterate through all the elements
so let's see when I have only one step
it should enter the value in both first
and second fields see so I have two
iterations the first iteration enter
that value in the first field and second
iteration add to the valid second field
so that this B saves a lot of steps and
a lot of effort and that one element can
be very useful for verifying all the
elements on one page and verifying
they're working correctly
so this is a data binding capability of
test video you can bind the test to a
local database external database CSV XML
or excel file you can bind a step action
step or verification step which will
iterate through several actions and
several ratifications and you can bind a
visual element so that with only one
step we can iterate through many
elements on your web page
