series on UFT automation this is part 2
of a function library concepts in the
part 1 we had you know we had looked
into what a function library is we
talked about file extensions we looked
into how a file library could be
associated with this case and we also
you know called functions and you know
kind of demonstrated how you can
actually you know use a function within
your test case ok Algy a quick recap on
how you can call and how you can
associate and then we will you know go
little more into the function libraries
and to make it more realistic on how we
can use them so in this library I
already have one associated let me
remove that let me close this as well so
I want to you know a couple of ways you
can open it I want to drag and drop
there I will open up the file show me
the file on the editor and then I'll
right click here and associate the
library you know this gets shown up here
go to this action and a couple of ways
you can add a function you can do step
generator and use functions and say
library and then you see all the
functions that you have in your function
library or you can pick that you know
complete the list of arguments and
you'll be done or if you already know
the names of functions you can directly
start you know and drink the data so I
can do print add 10 comma 34 so if I
were to run this to run from this trip
so it'll just I know that this exit
function is a very last in the list so
it'll just run that line 11 will be done
so the total is 44 10 plus 34 so I mean
this function library all it does is it
takes two numbers and as the total and
gives you back now that's all basic but
how can you use this in real time how
can you use this in projects you know
what you can do is you can maybe pass
this a and B let's say you might have
you're working with the banking project
and you have two accounts and you want
to know the total of two account
balances so you can from the output
value you would get those two values and
use this function to add it so that's
how you know depending on what you add
use you I mean that makes the function
library more powerful so I'm gonna show
you a way where you can you know kind of
use it real time let me give you know
what before I get into all these
business functions let me show you
another function library I have which is
a file system utilities FSL file system
objects so this function library if I
pull it here is about six or seven
functions and it says up into you know
up into file copy folders create file
create folder create folder if not found
delete folder so you can do you know a
bunch of things here and this you know
especially this function library comes
real handy when you work with file
system so let me associate this file as
well so I have it here
and now what I'll do is you know create
a directory and I'll create it in this
you know okay
assuming there's create okay create
folder and it needs name and it's K so
that's a drive I'll say sample directory
one I'll do right click here and you
know this K drive is nothing but this
location so when we run it it should
create a folder there I mean as long as
the function is doing the way you know
if
function is defined correctly and if it
can create then yes you know it would
create so we already had now you know we
see that it's you're a sample directory
so next time you run it obviously this
is going to fail right let's see what
happens then we'll say you know create a
file create file and we'll give it a
name I mean you need to get the whole
path and the filename is global e
training.com dot txt
let's go around from here so it runs
line eleven and thirteen as well you
know because it cannot because you know
the you know file already exists you
know what it really means the folder is
already there we'll skip that line or
that function and so it went and
executed the line thirteen and this it
created a blank file so this you know
this particular function all it does it
creates a file so I mean that's how you
can you know write or have functions in
one location and you can you know what
once it's associated you can use it
anywhere so that's the beauty of this
you know this whole thing now let's see
how we can you know convert our test
scripts into some business functions
let's say for example so I have these
and I have this is what login that's
already this it will start the
application then I have login here let
me associate another function library
and here it is this is a function
library and then within this function
library I have a function to start an
application and I have a function to
login a function to book a flight and I
have function to exit function
I mean other functions as well what I
will do is you know I'll go to the login
and Stroeve this I'll comment all these
lines
we'll see we'll just start you know step
by step we'll just start very basic so
you know what we will do this well
comment this go to reservation well
comment this whole thing as well so we
took care of these and we go to exit
yeah these are color it's quite uncommon
this primarily where you're making all
these functions black functions so
comment so now pretty much every line
within the functions are common
throughout so we know that we have a
function here that were actually you
know call horst's I'm sorry start the
sample application so what I'll do is I
know the name I'll go to in it so
instead of writing my own statement like
this how I'll do is I'll domain oh it's
not seeing because it hasn't been
associated yet all right click here
associate wants a seat here I can go to
in it Megan does this win I'll say start
so this word you know we know that this
is gonna start the application and the
reason for that is you know that's
because of this the same lines here let
me copy this line and go to the in it
paste it right under this first line
it's identical it's the same line so
what we did was you know primarily we
have that in this function and we're
just calling the function so now if I do
this it'll just start that you know
flight application of course rest of the
lines are all blank I mean the disk
actions are you know empty so it started
so we know that this is working and we
can go to the login now instead of all
these lines what we will do is to win
and say login I'm sorry it's logging
never call it I mean for now if you look
at it it is it has no argument but it is
using test user and Mercury's using
those and just you know logging into
your application number one how is it
even recognizing all this the reason is
we already have these you know we
recorded it and it's already in the
function means area so in the object
repository it's already in there so that
is why it is able to recognize all the
objects because they're already here so
within the function I mean technically
you know let's say for example login we
have all these chips I can you know take
these steps and go to this function
library instead of using this login
function I will say function function
I'll say my login function just to
demonstrate to you that it actually
works
so I'll uncomment this line all these
lines and here I'm using mercury is
logging into this encrypted password so
this the actual function is my login
function I want to copy that going to
login and change that into my login now
we'll run the test case and let's go
back to this library real quick and if
you look at it these lines are kind of
identical to this and of course it does
you know these three I don't need this
you know tab line it was recorded
because I use the tab and I recorded it
so technically whatever code that was
generated from your recording you can
take that and convert that into your
function and you know these kind of
functions are referred to as business
functions so if I go back to login so
now I'm going to call - my login
function
and let's run the test so it should use
that function to start the application
then use the function to log in the one
that we wrote so it logged in so that's
how of you I know use functions you know
we use very basic functions to begin
with like adding two numbers and
displaying a message but you know I in
the field he would see functions with
some business logic in there I mean it's
very simple you can record and convert
that into actions to begin with the
start off it's a really good start
really really good start
we're from here you can do other things
which I'll talk about another video part
three of this you know function
libraries where you will go to next step
where you will lower other things you
load you will dynamically load function
library you will dynamically load object
repositories meaning there is nothing
there will be nothing in your script no
object repository no functions
everything gets loaded in the runtime
while the script is running it'll load
all that and use it and I'll demonstrate
that to you in part three of this you
know video for function libraries so I
hope you all followed me where I was
actually you know making calls and
actually you know the the process of
starting application and process of
logging into the application was
executed by a function and that function
actually has the steps that are needed
to log in say for example this this is
what this is exactly what we did we call
this function my login function and you
I'm sure you would recognize this line
now from our prior recordings you know
it's a dialogue login dot between edit
and it is able to recognize this because
we have those objects you know Roger
depositors that's the reason if I were
to delete this here from here like this
our func our test will fail because you
know it it will not be able to recognize
so that's that's a point there well I

concept of using this function like
