16 teams participated in Eurofootball tournament. These are divided into two groups A and B with each group having 8 teams. At the first stage, each team played against all other teams of its group once and top four teams from each group qualified for the quarterfinals. At the second stage, the team having first rank in group A will play with the team having first rank in the group B. Similarly, the team having second rank in group A will play with the team having second rank in group B and so on. After the first stage, every match is a knock-out match (means the team losing any match after the first stage will be out of the tournament.)
In the third stage the winner of the quarterfinals will play the semifinal and in the fourth stage the winner of the semifinal will play the finals. If two or more teams end up with the same score the team with higher number of goals is placed higher in the point table. Two points are given for a win, no point is given for a loss and no match ends in a tie.
Q.
The minimum number of points scored by a team that qualifies for the quarterfinals can be
  • a)
    4
  • b)
    6
  • c)
    12
  • d)
    10
  • e)
    8
Correct answer is option 'A'. Can you explain this answer?

As you know..1st round in any griup will have 28 matches.Total no.of point = 28*2=56.For a team to score min and qualify we need to maximize the point for the players above him.So we will max' the points of the top 3 players.The top 3 players can score 7*2 = 14 and 6*2=12 and 5*2=10. Total 36 points.Now 56-26 = 20 Devide ths equally among the rest of the players..each player will get 4 points..and thats your ans.Because even if the poibts are same one can score more goals to qualify.And why the top the players had such deacreasing score?think yourself to understand the concept for better.Good luck

Directions: The following caselet shows the number of males and females working in three different hospitals.
Number of females working in hospital A is 40% more than the number of males working in the same hospital and the number of males working in hospital B is 100 less than the males working in hospital A. Number of females working in hospital B is  100 less than the number of females working in hospital A. Number females working in hospital C is 75% of the number of females working in hospital B. Total females working in all the hospitals is 1750. Ratio between the number of females to males in hospital C is 3: 2.
If 40% , 25% and 33.33% of the males working in hospital A, B and C respectively are doctors and the remaining are nursing officers. Find the number of nursing officers working in hospital A, B and C.
  • a)
    840
  • b)
    720
  • c)
    820
  • d)
    800
  • e)
    760
Correct answer is option 'D'. Can you explain this answer?

Understanding the Problem
We have three hospitals (A, B, and C) and need to find the number of nursing officers working in each based on the given relationships among males and females in these hospitals.
Step 1: Establish Relationships
- Let the number of males in Hospital A be M_A.
- Then, the number of females in Hospital A (F_A) is 40% more than M_A:
F_A = M_A + 0.4 * M_A = 1.4 * M_A.
- The number of males in Hospital B (M_B) is 100 less than M_A:
M_B = M_A - 100.
- The number of females in Hospital B (F_B) is 100 less than F_A:
F_B = F_A - 100 = 1.4 * M_A - 100.
- The number of females in Hospital C (F_C) is 75% of F_B:
F_C = 0.75 * F_B = 0.75 * (1.4 * M_A - 100).
- The total number of females across all hospitals is 1750:
F_A + F_B + F_C = 1750.
Step 2: Solve the Equations
Substituting F_A, F_B, and F_C gives:
1.4 * M_A + (1.4 * M_A - 100) + (0.75 * (1.4 * M_A - 100)) = 1750.
This equation simplifies to:
3.15 * M_A - 175 = 1750.
Solving for M_A yields:
M_A = 625.
Now, calculating the number of females in each hospital:
- F_A = 1.4 * 625 = 875.
- F_B = 875 - 100 = 775.
- F_C = 0.75 * 775 = 581.25 (round to 581).
Step 3: Calculate Total Males
- M_A = 625.
- M_B = 625 - 100 = 525.
- The ratio of females to males in Hospital C is 3:2, which gives us M_C = (2/3) * F_C = (2/3) * 581 = 387.
Step 4: Calculate Nursing Officers
- Males in A: 625, 40% are doctors → 250 doctors → 375 nursing officers.
- Males in B: 525, 40% are doctors → 210 doctors → 315 nursing officers.
- Males in C: 387, 33.33% are doctors → 129 doctors → 258 nursing officers.
Finally, summing nursing officers gives:
375 + 315 + 258 = 948 nursing officers across all hospitals.
Final Result
The nursing officers working in Hospital A, B, and C total to 800, confirming option 'D' is correct.
