Passage - 2
The human mind is wired to see patterns. Not only does the brain process information as it comes in, it also stores insights from all your past experiences. Your intuition has been developing and expanding for as long as you've been alive. Every interaction, happy or sad, is cataloged in your memory. Intuition draws from that deep memory well to inform your decisions going forward. In other words, intuitive decisions are based on data, in a way. When we subconsciously spot patterns, the body starts firing neurochemicals in both the brain and gut. These "somatic markers" are what give us that instant sense that something is right ... or that it's off. Not only are these automatic processes faster than rational thought, but your intuition draws from decades of diverse qualitative experience (sights, sounds, interactions, etc.) - a wholly human feature that big data alone could never accomplish. It's also faster than rational thought, which means intuition is a necessary skill that can help decision-making when time is short and traditional analytics may not be available. Many researchers, including machine learning experts and data scientists, are embracing the role hunches play in breakthrough thinking. Intuition is now considered simply another kind of data-one that's no less valuable than traditional analytics. After all, algorithms are created by people and therefore subject to human error. Which one of the following if true, most weakens the argument made by the author?
  • a)
Decades of rational thinking and data analytical skills is necessary to hone the ability to apply intuition.
  • b)
Intuitive decisions are not made haphazardly, or merely on a gut feeling; an intuitive decisionmaking style is developed through experience.
  • c)
Those who normally prefer combining intuitive decisions with analysis made the best decisions in crisis situations.
  • d)
Organizations need good leadership, not more control, in order to develop the staff's ability to make good decisions.
Correct answer is option 'A'. Can you explain this answer?

Aryan Khanna answered
The author in the passage talks about two kinds of decision making - one based on rational thinking and the other based on intuition. The author states that intuition is based on experience-one that can be developed through diverse qualitative experience. It is differentiated from rational thought which is slower than intuition. If answer choice (a) is true, then rational thinking ability is necessary to develop intuition. Without rational thinking ability, the ability to intuition is not possible. This answer choice, by making rational thinking necessary for intuition, weakens the author argument.
Incorrect Answers
(b)- This supports author's argument. The author says that intuition is developed through experience which is what answer choice (b) also says.
(c)- This answer choice is specific to crisis situations. The answer choice says that in such a situation both intuition and analysis is important. This is not inconsistent with the views of the author and does not weaken the author's argument.
(d)- Answer choice (d), even if true, does not impact the argument. All that this answer choice says is that organisation requires good leadership. This does not address any of the arguments presented by the author.

6, 11, 21, 36, 56, ?
  • a)
    42
  • b)
    81
  • c)
    51
  • d)
    91
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?

Alok Malik answered
Given series: 6, 11, 21, 36, 56, ?

To find the next number in the series, we need to identify the pattern followed by the series.

Pattern:

If we observe the series carefully, we can see that each number in the series is obtained by adding the consecutive odd numbers starting from 1.

6 = 1 + 5
11 = 1 + 5 + 5
21 = 1 + 5 + 5 + 10
36 = 1 + 5 + 5 + 10 + 15
56 = 1 + 5 + 5 + 10 + 15 + 20

So, the next number in the series can be obtained by adding the next odd number, which is 25, to the previous number in the series.

Therefore, the next number in the series is:

56 + 25 = 81

Hence, the correct answer is option 'B' (81).

Three of the following four are alike in a certain way and so form a group. Which is the one that does not belong to that group?
Q. 6,5,24,25,144,(?)
  • a)
    155
  • b)
    160
  • c)
    170
  • d)
    175
Correct answer is option 'D'. Can you explain this answer?

Zeenat Singh answered
Grouping:

- 6, 24, 144: These are all perfect squares.
- 5, 25: These are both perfect squares of prime numbers.
- 175: This doesn't fit into any of the above categories.

Therefore, the answer is option D, 175.

In each of the following questions, Four words have been given, out of which four are alike in some manner and the fifth one is different. Choose out the odd one out.
a)Sleet
b)Fog
c)Hailstone
d)Vapour
Correct answer is option 'D'. Can you explain this answer?

Akansha jain answered
Odd One Out: Sleet, Fog, Hailstone, Vapour

Explanation:
To identify the odd one out, we need to consider the similarities and differences among the given words. Let's analyze each word:

1) Sleet: Sleet refers to a form of precipitation that consists of small ice pellets. It occurs when raindrops freeze before reaching the ground. Sleet is a type of frozen precipitation.

2) Fog: Fog is a cloud-like mass that forms near the ground when the air is cool and moisture condenses. It reduces visibility and is composed of tiny water droplets suspended in the air.

3) Hailstone: Hailstone refers to a solid precipitation in the form of ice pellets. It is larger and more solid than sleet. Hailstones are formed within thunderstorm clouds when there are strong updrafts that carry raindrops upward into extremely cold regions of the atmosphere, causing them to freeze.

4) Vapour: Vapour is a gaseous state of a substance, typically water, when it is below its boiling point. It is the invisible form of water that exists in the atmosphere.

Now let's analyze the similarities and differences among these words:

- Sleet, Hailstone, and Vapour all refer to different forms of precipitation, while Fog is a type of atmospheric condition.

- Sleet and Hailstone are both forms of frozen precipitation, but Vapour and Fog are not frozen.

- Hailstone is different from Sleet and Vapour as it is larger and formed within thunderstorm clouds.

Based on these observations, we can conclude that the odd one out is option D) Vapour. While all the other options refer to different forms of precipitation, Vapour is a gaseous state of water and not a form of precipitation.

An employee has been assigned the task of allotting offices to six of the staff members. The offices are numbered 1-6. Neelam who is Rohit’s daughter tells to Indu, “Your mother Rita is the younger sister of my father, who is the third child of Sohanji” how is Sohanji related to Indu?
  • a)
    Maternal uncle
  • b)
    Father
  • c)
    Grandfather
  • d)
    Father in law
Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?

Urvashi shah answered
Explanation:

Sohanji is the father of Neelam's father and the third child of Sohanji. Therefore, Neelam's father is one of Sohanji's children.

Neelam tells Indu that her mother Rita is the younger sister of Neelam's father. This means that Rita is also one of Sohanji's children.

Since Sohanji is the father of both Neelam's father and Indu's mother Rita, he is the grandfather of both Neelam and Indu.

Therefore, the correct answer is option C: Grandfather.

For each of the following questions, there are two words and four alternative answers. In each of the alternative answers there are two words. Find out the alternative whose two words have the same relation as in the two words given in the beginning,
Q. Mistake: Void
  • a)
    Misrepresentation:Voidable
  • b)
    Contract: Enforceable
  • c)
    Counter-offer: Void
  • d)
    Agreement: Voidable
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?

Relation between Mistake and Void:
- Mistake is a situation where one or both parties in a contract have misunderstood or misrepresented something, leading to an agreement that is not valid or enforceable.
- Void is a term used to describe an agreement or contract that is not legally binding for some reason, such as a mistake, fraud, or illegality.

Possible alternatives:
a) Misrepresentation: Voidable
- Misrepresentation is a situation where one party in a contract has made a false statement or concealed important information, leading to an agreement that is not valid or enforceable.
- Voidable is a term used to describe an agreement or contract that can be legally avoided or cancelled by one or both parties.

b) Contract: Enforceable
- A contract is a legally binding agreement between two or more parties.
- Enforceable is a term used to describe an agreement or contract that can be legally enforced by one or both parties.

c) Counter-offer: Void
- A counter-offer is a new offer made by one party in response to an initial offer from another party.
- Void is a term used to describe an agreement or contract that is not legally binding for some reason, such as a mistake, fraud, or illegality.

d) Agreement: Voidable
- An agreement is a mutual understanding or arrangement between two or more parties.
- Voidable is a term used to describe an agreement or contract that can be legally avoided or cancelled by one or both parties.

Correct answer:
The correct answer is option 'B', Contract: Enforceable. This is because the relationship between Mistake and Void is that Mistake makes an agreement Void, whereas Enforceable means that a contract can be legally enforced, which is the opposite of Void. Similarly, Mistake makes a contract unenforceable, which is the same relationship as between Contract and Enforceable. Therefore, option 'B' is the alternative whose two words have the same relation as in the two words given in the beginning.
