  • a)
    increase by seven times.
  • b)
    increase by three times.
  • c)
    reduce to one quarter.
  • d)
    remain the same
Correct answer is option 'B'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
80. The applied voltage of a certain transformer isincreased by 75%; w...
Ans.

As we know that maximum core flux density is always proportional to the ratio of applied voltage by frequency.
i.e B max is proportional to (V/f)
In terms of percentage
(∆B max/B max)*100=(∆v/v)*100-(∆f/f)*100
Here (∆v/v)*100=75%
(∆f/f)*100= -25%(since it is decreased)
Therefore (∆B max/B max)*100= 75-(-25)=100%

So B max increases by 100%

Explanation:

  • The maximum core flux density of a transformer is given by Bmax = V / (4.44 f N A), where V is the applied voltage, f is the frequency, N is the number of turns, and A is the cross-sectional area of the core.

  • When the applied voltage is increased by 75%, the new voltage V' = V + 0.75 V = 1.75 V.

  • When the frequency is reduced by 25%, the new frequency f' = f - 0.25 f = 0.75 f.

  • Substituting these values in the equation for Bmax, we get Bmax' = 1.75 V / (4.44 x 0.75 f N A) = (2.33 V) / (4.44 f N A).

  • Comparing this with the original value of Bmax, we get Bmax' / Bmax = (2.33 V) / (4.44 f N A) x (4.44 f N A) / V = 2.33 / 1 = 2.33.

  • Therefore, the maximum core flux density will increase by three times (2.33 times).

Therefore, the correct option is B.
