The different ionic concentration for a water sample is being shown be...
Total alkalinity (in mg/l as CaCO3)
(gm × milliequivalent = 103 mg × 10-3 equivalent = mg-equivalent)
= 75 + 125
= 200 mg/L as CaCo3
Total hardness (in mg/L as CaCO3)
= 100 + 200
= 300 mg/L as CaCo3
Since carbonate hardness is minimum of (total alkalinity or total hardness)
∴ Carbonate hardness = Total Alkalinity = 200 mg/L as CaCo3
Non-carbonate hardness = Total hardness – carbonate hardness = 300 – 200
= 100 mg/l as CaCo3
