Murali Naveen and omprakash are partners sharing profits in the ratio ...
Calculation of New Profit Sharing Ratio and Gaining Ratio

Given Information:

  • Murali, Naveen and Omprakash are partners sharing profits in the ratio of 3/8, 1/2 and 1/8 respectively.

  • Murali retires and surrenders 2/3 of a share in favour of Navin and remaining share in favour of Omprakash.

Calculation of New Profit Sharing Ratio:

After Murali's retirement, the new profit sharing ratio of Naveen and Omprakash will be:

  • Naveen's share = (Old share of Naveen) + (2/3 of Murali's share)

  • = (1/2) + (2/3 x 3/8)

  • = (1/2) + (1/4)

  • = 3/4

  • Omprakash's share = (Old share of Omprakash) + (1/3 of Murali's share)

  • = (1/8) + (1/3 x 3/8)

  • = (1/8) + (1/8)

  • = 1/4

Therefore, the new profit sharing ratio of Naveen and Omprakash is 3/4 : 1/4 or 3 : 1.

Calculation of Gaining Ratio of Remaining Partners:

Gaining ratio is the ratio in which the remaining partners acquire the share of a retiring partner. In this case, the gaining ratio of Naveen and Omprakash will be:

  • Gaining ratio of Naveen = (2/3 of Murali's share) / (Old total share of the firm)

  • = (2/3 x 3/8) / (3/8 + 1/2 + 1/8)

  • = (1/4) / (1)

  • = 1/4

  • Gaining ratio of Omprakash = (1/3 of Murali's share) / (Old total share of the firm)

  • = (1/3 x 3/8) / (3/8 + 1/2 + 1/8)

  • = (1/8) / (1)

  • = 1/8

Therefore, the gaining ratio of Naveen and Omprakash is 1 : 4 and 1 : 8 respectively.
