Calculate the safe stopping sight distance for a design speed of 60 km...
For one-way traffic, SSD is given by:
Where,
f = coefficient of longitudinal friction = 0.35
g = acceleration due to gravity
V = Design speed = 60 Kmph = 0.278 × 60 m/s
Now for two-way traffic,
SSD required = 2 × SSD = 2 × 82.20 = 164.40 m

Calculate the safe stopping sight distance for a design speed of 60 km...
Safe stopping sight distance is the distance required for a driver to bring the vehicle to a stop after he observes an object on the road. It is calculated based on the design speed of the road and the reaction time of the driver.

Given data:

Design speed = 60 km/h

Reaction time = 2.5 sec

Calculation:

1. Reaction distance:

Reaction distance is the distance travelled by the vehicle during the driver's reaction time.

Reaction distance = Design speed x Reaction time

= (60 x 1000)/3600 x 2.5

= 41.67 meters

2. Braking distance:

Braking distance is the distance travelled by the vehicle after the driver applies the brakes until it comes to a stop.

Braking distance = (v^2)/(2 x g x f)

where,

v = design speed in m/s = 60 x 1000/3600 = 16.67 m/s

g = acceleration due to gravity = 9.81 m/s^2

f = coefficient of friction between the road surface and the vehicle tires. It is assumed to be 0.4 for dry roads.

Braking distance = (16.67^2)/(2 x 9.81 x 0.4)

= 122.75 meters

3. Safe stopping sight distance:

Safe stopping sight distance = Reaction distance + Braking distance

= 41.67 + 122.75

= 164.42 meters

Therefore, the safe stopping sight distance for a design speed of 60 km/h for two-way traffic on a single lane road with a reaction time of 2.5 sec is 164.42 meters.
