What is the area of rectangle ABCD? Length of each diagonal of rectang...
Solution:

We are given:

- The length of each diagonal of a rectangle ABCD is 13cm.
- The perimeter of rectangle ABCD is 34cm.

We need to find the area of rectangle ABCD.

Statement 1: The length of side AB is 5cm.

If we consider the diagonal AC of rectangle ABCD, we can form a right-angled triangle ABC with AB as one of the legs. We know that the length of diagonal AC is 13cm. Using the Pythagorean theorem, we can find the length of BC as follows:

AC² = AB² + BC²
13² = 5² + BC²
BC² = 13² - 5²
BC² = 144
BC = 12cm

Therefore, we can find the length of the other side AD as follows:

Perimeter of rectangle ABCD = 2 × (AB + AD)
34 = 2 × (5 + AD)
AD = 12cm

Now, we can find the area of rectangle ABCD as follows:

Area of rectangle ABCD = AB × AD
= 5 × 12
= 60cm²

Hence, statement 1 alone is sufficient to answer the question.

Statement 2: The area of rectangle ABCD is 48cm².

We cannot directly use statement 2 to find the length of the sides of rectangle ABCD. Hence, statement 2 alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

Combining both statements:

From statement 1, we know that the length of side AB is 5cm. From statement 2, we know that the area of rectangle ABCD is 48cm². Using these, we can find the length of the other side AD as follows:

Area of rectangle ABCD = AB × AD
48 = 5 × AD
AD = 9.6cm

Now, we can find the perimeter of rectangle ABCD as follows:

Perimeter of rectangle ABCD = 2 × (AB + AD)
= 2 × (5 + 9.6)
= 28.4cm

This contradicts the given perimeter of 34cm. Therefore, both statements together are not sufficient to answer the question.

Hence, the correct answer is option (C).
