    Calculation of Maximum Permissible Irrigated Area for Wheat

    Culturable Command Area of Canal = 10,000 ha
    Crops grown: Rice in Kharif season and Wheat in Rabi season

    Design discharge of the canal is based on Rice requirements:

    Irrigated area for Rice (A) = 2500 ha
    Base period for Rice (B) = 150 days
    Delta for Rice (D) = 130 cm

    Maximum Permissible Irrigated area for Wheat can be calculated using the following formula:

    A1/A2 = (B1/B2) * (D1/D2)

    Where,
    A1 = Irrigated area for Rice = 2500 ha
    B1 = Base period for Rice = 150 days
    D1 = Delta for Rice = 130 cm
    B2 = Base period for Wheat = 120 days
    D2 = Delta for Wheat = 50 cm
    A2 = Maximum permissible irrigated area for Wheat (to be calculated)

    Substituting the values in the formula, we get:

    2500/A2 = (150/120) * (130/50)
    2500/A2 = 2.6
    A2 = 2500/2.6
    A2 = 961.53 ha (approx.)

    Therefore, the Maximum Permissible Irrigated area for Wheat is 961.53 ha.

    However, since the canal has a Culturable Command Area of 10,000 ha, the remaining area can be utilized for Wheat cultivation. Hence, the maximum permissible irrigated area for Wheat would be:

    10,000 - 2500 = 7500 ha

    And since the maximum permissible irrigated area for Wheat calculated above is less than 7500 ha, the actual maximum permissible irrigated area for Wheat would be:

    A2 = 7500 ha - Irrigated area for Rice (A1)
    A2 = 7500 - 2500
    A2 = 5000 ha

    But, since the maximum permissible irrigated area for Wheat cannot exceed the Culturable Command Area of the canal, the actual maximum permissible irrigated area for Wheat would be:

    A2 = Minimum of (Maximum permissible irrigated area for Wheat calculated and Culturable Command Area of Canal)

    A2 = Minimum of (5000 ha and 10,000 ha)
    A2 = 5000 ha

    Therefore, the maximum permissible irrigated area for Wheat is 5200 ha (2500 ha for Rice and 5200 ha for Wheat, within the Culturable Command Area of 10,000 ha).
