    Differentiate f(x) , at x<0 
    and find the limit at x=0 
    equating with f(x)  at x=0 
    we will get relation btw a and c  i.e..
    a+2=c  or a=c-2
     similarly at for f(x) at x>0 
    but initially take root x from numerator and denominator so that
    (((1+bx)^1/2) -1)/bx and find limit at x=0 and equate with f(x) at x=0
    we get c=1/2
    thus a+c=c-2+c=2c-2=2*1/2  -2=-1
