Verified Answer
An amount was divided between Karan and Kunal, such that the sum of 5 ...
Let Kunal and Karan’s share be Rs. ‘x’ and Rs. ‘y’ respectively
Amount of money = x + y
⇒ 5x + 2y = 4(x + y)
⇒ 5x – 4x = 4y – 2y
⇒ x = 2y
Also, (1/5)x + (1/4)y = 325
⇒ 4x + 5y = 325 × 20
Substituting for x,
⇒ 4(2y) + 5y = 6500
⇒ 13y = 6500
⇒ y = 6500/13 = 500
⇒ x = 2y = 2(500) = 1000
∴ The amount of money is = x + y = 1000 + 500 = Rs. 1500
