Verified Answer
A dishonest shopkeeper uses a weight of 850 gm instead of 1 kg and sel...
Original weight of rice = 1 kg = 1000 gm
Let cost of 1 gm is Rs. 1
Cost price of 1000 gm = Rs. 1000
Selling price of 850 gm = Rs. 1000 (∵ giving only 850 gm instead of 1000 gm)
Profit = [error/ (true weight)] × 100
⇒ Profit = [(1000 - 850)/ 850] × 100 = (150/850) × 100 = 17.65%
∴ profit % on 5kg is equal to profit on 1 kg which is 17.65%

A dishonest shopkeeper uses a weight of 850 gm instead of 1 kg and sel...
Solution:

Given, the shopkeeper uses a weight of 850 gm instead of 1 kg.

So, the actual cost price of the shopkeeper for 1 kg of rice = cost price for 850 gm of rice.

Let the cost price of 1 kg of rice be Rs. x.

Then, the cost price of 850 gm of rice = (850/1000) * x = 0.85x

Now, the shopkeeper sells rice on its cost price.

Therefore, the selling price of 1 kg of rice = Rs. x

And, the selling price of 850 gm of rice = (850/1000) * x = 0.85x

Hence, the selling price of 5 kg of rice = 5x

Profit Percentage:

Profit = Selling Price - Cost Price

Profit on 850 gm of rice = (0.85x - 0.85x) = 0

Profit on 1 kg of rice = (x - 0.85x) = 0.15x

Profit on 5 kg of rice = 5 * (0.15x) = 0.75x

Profit Percentage = (Profit / Cost Price) * 100

Profit Percentage = (0.75x / 5x) * 100 = 15%

Therefore, the shopkeeper's profit percentage on selling 5 kg of rice is 15%.

Hence, option B is the correct answer.
