Problem:
A salesman gets commission on total sales at 9%. If the sale exceeded rs 10000 he gets an additional commission as bonus of 3% on the excess of sales over rs 10000 . If he gets total commission of rs 1380 then bonus he receive is?

Solution:

Let the total sales be x.

Commission on total sales = 9% of x = 0.09x

If sales exceed 10000, then the bonus commission is given on the excess amount.

Excess amount = x - 10000

Bonus commission = 3% of excess amount = 0.03(x - 10000)

Total commission = Commission on total sales + Bonus commission

1380 = 0.09x + 0.03(x - 10000)

1380 = 0.09x + 0.03x - 300

1380 + 300 = 0.12x

1680 = 0.12x

x = 14000

Total sales = Rs. 14000

Excess amount = 14000 - 10000 = Rs. 4000

Bonus commission = 3% of 4000 = Rs. 120

Therefore, the bonus he receives is Rs. 120.
