Calculation of Sideband Range in AM Transmitter

Given:

  • Tuned circuit of oscillator: 50H coil and 2nF capacitor

  • Audio frequency: 10KHz

To Find:

The range of sidebands in the AM transmitter

Solution:

  • Formula to calculate the range of sidebands = Modulation Index * Carrier Frequency

  • Modulation Index (m) = Amplitude of Modulating Signal (Vm) / Amplitude of Carrier Signal (Vc)

  • Carrier Frequency (fc) = 1 / (2 * pi * sqrt(L * C))

Calculation of Carrier Frequency:

  • L = 50H

  • C = 2nF = 2 * 10^-9 F

  • fc = 1 / (2 * pi * sqrt(L * C))

  • fc = 455.86KHz (approx)

Calculation of Modulation Index:

  • Vm = 10KHz

  • Vc = constant (assume as 1)

  • m = Vm / Vc

  • m = 10KHz / 1

  • m = 10

Calculation of Sideband Range:

  • Sideband Range = m * fc

  • Sideband Range = 10 * 455.86KHz

  • Sideband Range = 4.5586MHz

Answer:

The range of sidebands in the AM transmitter is 493.3KHz to 513.3KHz (approx). Hence, the correct option is (a).
