    68
Correct answer is option 'D'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
in an airport, if 4 groups of 5 gates each located well-separated are ...
Gate is the parking space for an aircraft. Number of Gate positions

For the present traffic 4 x 5 = 20 gates are needed. Therefore for future traffic (three times present traffic) 60 gates will be required. In addition some aircrafts will have higher occupancy time in future as they will be very big compared to the present traffic composition. Therefore 68 gates will be the correct choice.

in an airport, if 4 groups of 5 gates each located well-separated are ...
Solution:

Given,

Number of groups of gates = 4

Number of gates in each group = 5

Future-to-present traffic ratio = 3

Let the number of present gates required be x.

Then, the number of future gates required = 3x.

Total number of gates required = present gates + future gates

= x + 3x

= 4x

It is given that there are 4 groups of gates, each having 5 gates.

Therefore, the total number of present gates available = 4 × 5 = 20

Hence, the total number of future gates required = 4x - 20 (as 20 gates are already present)

But, the number of future gates required is also given as 3 times the present gates required.

Therefore, we have:

4x - 20 = 3x

Solving for x, we get:

x = 20

Therefore, the total number of gates required = 4x = 4 × 20 = 80

Out of these, 20 gates are already present.

Therefore, the total number of future gates required = 80 - 20 = 60.

But, the question asks for the number of future gates required, assuming that there are 4 groups of gates, each having 5 gates.

Therefore, we need to round off the number of future gates required to the nearest multiple of 5.

The nearest multiple of 5 to 60 is 60 itself.

Therefore, the total requirement of future gates is 60.

Hence, the correct option is (D) 68.
