Enthalpy-Entropy Diagram

The enthalpy-entropy diagram is a thermodynamic graph which represents the relationship between enthalpy and entropy. Enthalpy is the measure of the total energy of a thermodynamic system while entropy is the measure of the degree of randomness or disorder in a system.

The diagram consists of two axes, the vertical axis represents the entropy and the horizontal axis represents the enthalpy.

Condensation of a Mixture of Saturated Liquid and Saturated Vapour

When a mixture of saturated liquid and saturated vapour is condensed, the vapour undergoes a change in state from gas to liquid. This process releases heat energy and results in an increase in the enthalpy of the system.

On the enthalpy-entropy diagram, this process is represented by an inclined line of constant slope, as the enthalpy increases while the entropy remains constant. This line is known as the 'constant quality' or 'wet steam' line.
