Water is heated at atmospheric pressure from 40°C to 80°C using two different processes. In process I, the heating is done by a source at 80°C. -Reversibility is one of the hardest concepts in thermodynamics. A process is reversible if its direction can be reversed at any point by an infinitesimal change in external conditions.
-The change in enthalpy is positive, and heat is absorbed from the surroundings by the reaction. Whether a reaction is endothermic or exothermic depends on the direction that it is going; some reactions are reversible, and when you revert the products back to reactants, the change in enthalpy is the opposite.

This process is more reversible than process I because the temperature difference between the source and the water is lower. The lower temperature difference results in less entropy production.

Enthalpy change: The enthalpy change of a substance is the heat absorbed or released by the substance during a process. The enthalpy change of water in process I and process II can be calculated using the formula:

ΔH = mCpΔT

where ΔH is the enthalpy change, m is the mass of the substance, Cp is the specific heat of the substance, and ΔT is the temperature change.

Since the mass and specific heat of water are constant, the enthalpy change of water in process I and process II depends only on the temperature change. The temperature change in both processes is the same, i.e., 40C. Therefore, the enthalpy change of water in process I and process II is the same.

Conclusion:

Process II is more reversible than process I because the temperature difference between the source and the water is lower. However, the enthalpy change of water in both processes is the same because the temperature change in both processes is the same. Therefore, option D is the correct answer.
