Safety valve one of the most important device without ths boiler can't run.thr was 2safety valve set on different pressure.it use when pressure is increased above set pressure than it relieves steam to atmosphere..it's tested by automatically or by easing gear(manually).before boiler put on use(newly boiler) than we conduct POP UP test.or than after we do frequently safety valve pressure test...both test having different properties.

The function of a safety valve is to blow off steam when the pressure of steam inside the boiler exceeds the working pressure.

Introduction

A safety valve is a crucial component in steam boilers that is designed to ensure the safe operation of the boiler by preventing excessive pressure buildup. It is a mechanical device that automatically releases steam when the pressure inside the boiler exceeds a pre-determined level.

Function of a Safety Valve

The primary function of a safety valve is to blow off steam when the pressure of steam inside the boiler exceeds the working pressure. This serves to protect the boiler from potential damage caused by excessive pressure.

Preventing Pressure Buildup

When a boiler is in operation, steam is generated and its pressure increases. However, there are certain limits to the pressure that a boiler can handle safely. If the pressure inside the boiler exceeds these limits, it can lead to a catastrophic failure, causing explosions or other hazardous situations. The safety valve is designed to prevent such situations by automatically opening and releasing steam when the pressure reaches the setpoint.

Setting the Pressure

The working pressure of a boiler is determined based on various factors such as the boiler design, material strength, and intended application. The safety valve is set to a pressure slightly higher than the working pressure to ensure that it opens only when the pressure exceeds the safe limit.

Blowing Off Steam

When the pressure inside the boiler exceeds the setpoint, the safety valve opens and releases steam into the atmosphere. This blowing off of steam helps to reduce the pressure inside the boiler and prevent any further increase. By releasing steam, the safety valve relieves the excess pressure and maintains the safe operating conditions of the boiler.

Resetting the Valve

After the safety valve has opened and discharged steam, it needs to be reset to its closed position. This is typically done manually or through an automated mechanism, depending on the design of the valve. Once reset, the safety valve is ready to perform its function again if the pressure exceeds the setpoint in the future.

In conclusion, the function of a safety valve in a steam boiler is to blow off steam when the pressure inside the boiler exceeds the working pressure. By doing so, it prevents the boiler from becoming overpressurized and ensures the safe operation of the system.
