Select one:
  • a)
    6 × 108J
  • b)
    5.3 × 102J
  • c)
    2.1 × 103J
  • d)
    20 × 106J
Correct answer is option 'C'. Can you explain this answer?
Verified Answer
One gram of water on evaporation at atmospheric pressure forms 1671cm3...
ΔQ = ΔW
ΔU = mL
ΔW = pΔV
ΔU = mL – pΔV
So, mL = 1 × 540 × 4.2 = 2268 J
Volume of 1gm of water = 1cm3
pΔV = 1 × 105(1671 – 1) × 10-6= 167 J
Thus, increase in internal energy is
ΔU = 2268 – 167 = 2.1 × 103J
The correct answer is: 2.1 × 103J
