Verified Answer
A wholesaler purchases books from three different places. The ratio of...
Let the number of books be 3x, 4x and 2x.
Let the profits be 4y, 7y and 5y and the cost prices be 9z, 11z
and 5z.
Let the selling price per unit be s.
3xs - 4 y = 9 z ... (i),
4xs - 7y - 11z... (ii)
And, 2xs - 5 y = 5 z ... (iii)
From (i) and (ii)
3z = 5y
From (ii) and (iii)
z = 3y
And, from (i) and (iii)
3z = 7y
We can see that no unique solution can be obtained.
The percentage profit cannot be determined.
Hence, option 4.

A wholesaler purchases books from three different places. The ratio of...
Let's assume that the wholesaler purchases books from three different places A, B, and C in the ratio of 3:4:2. This means that if he purchases 300 books in total, he would buy 90 books from place A, 120 books from place B, and 60 books from place C.

Similarly, the corresponding ratio of profit from selling these books is given as 4:7:5. So, if the total profit from selling these books is 160 units, the profit from selling books purchased from place A would be 40 units, from place B would be 70 units, and from place C would be 50 units.

Now, let's assume the cost price of the books purchased from place A is 9x, from place B is 11x, and from place C is 5x.

To find the total cost price, we can add up the cost prices of books purchased from each place:
Cost price of books purchased from place A = 90 * 9x = 810x
Cost price of books purchased from place B = 120 * 11x = 1320x
Cost price of books purchased from place C = 60 * 5x = 300x

The total cost price of all the books is 810x + 1320x + 300x = 2430x

Now, let's calculate the total profit percentage:
Total profit = 160 units
Total cost price = 2430x

Profit percentage = (Total profit / Total cost price) * 100
Profit percentage = (160 / 2430x) * 100

Simplifying further,
Profit percentage = (16 / 243x) * 100

As we can see, the profit percentage depends on the value of x. Since the value of x is not given in the question, we cannot determine the exact profit percentage.

Hence, the correct answer is option D) Cannot be determined.
