The French people were divided into three estate those were :
(a) clergy
(b) nobility
(c) commeners
the commeners were holding 98% of the population in France
the king doesn't belong to any of the three estate
the taxes were paid by third estate people
there were 300 representative of the first estate ie. clergy and the second estate ie. noblity
but third estate have 600 representative because they were in more people in that

Before 1789 the French society was split up into three estates (1) Clergy (2) Noblity and (3) Labours, workers and so on....but after 1789 the French revolution begins and after that France gains democracy. hence, It was called society of estates.
