what is difference between spherical and plane mirror.
Verified Answer
what is difference between spherical and plane mirror.
Spherical Mirror => It is curved mirror which is the part of a hollow spherical glass.

There are 2 types of spherical mirrors :-
(1) Concave mirror
(2) Convex mirror
Plane Mirror => It is a flat mirror which is not curved.
Properties of plane mirror:-
(1) They form real and inverted images
(2) They form laterally inverted
(3) The distance between object and mirror is equal to the distance between image and mirror.

what is difference between spherical and plane mirror.
Spherical Mirror:
A spherical mirror is a curved mirror that has a spherical shape. It can be either concave or convex, depending on the curvature of its surface.

Plane Mirror:
A plane mirror, on the other hand, is a flat mirror with a reflective surface. It reflects light without any distortion, maintaining the same size and shape of the object being reflected.

Differences:

Curvature:
- Spherical Mirror: It has a curved surface with a specific radius of curvature.
- Plane Mirror: It has a flat surface with no curvature.

Reflection:
- Spherical Mirror: The reflection occurs on the curved surface, resulting in the formation of an image.
- Plane Mirror: The reflection occurs on the flat surface, producing a virtual image that appears to be as far behind the mirror as the object is in front of it.

Focal Point:
- Spherical Mirror: It has a focal point, which is the point where parallel rays of light converge or appear to converge after reflection. In a concave mirror, the focal point is in front of the mirror, while in a convex mirror, it is behind the mirror.
- Plane Mirror: It does not have a focal point. The reflected rays of light are parallel to each other and do not converge.

Magnification:
- Spherical Mirror: The magnification of the image formed by a spherical mirror can vary depending on the position of the object relative to the mirror. It can be magnified or diminished.
- Plane Mirror: The magnification of the image formed by a plane mirror is always 1, which means the image has the same size as the object.

Field of View:
- Spherical Mirror: The field of view of a spherical mirror is limited due to its curved shape. Depending on the size and curvature, it may provide a wider or narrower field of view.
- Plane Mirror: The field of view of a plane mirror is wider since it is flat and reflects light uniformly.

Applications:
- Spherical Mirror: Spherical mirrors are commonly used in telescopes, cameras, and makeup mirrors.
- Plane Mirror: Plane mirrors are used in everyday objects like bathroom mirrors, dressing mirrors, and rear-view mirrors.

In summary, the main differences between spherical and plane mirrors lie in their curvature, reflection properties, focal points, magnification, field of view, and applications. Spherical mirrors have a curved surface, form images, have focal points, and can vary in magnification and field of view. On the other hand, plane mirrors have a flat surface, produce virtual images, do not have focal points, have a magnification of 1, and offer a wider field of view.
