Let total work = LCM of 12, 18 = 36
Efficiency of X = 36/12 = 3
Efficiency of Y = 36/18 = 2
5/9th of total work = (5/9)(36) = 20
Together both can complete 20 units of work in 20/(2+3) = 20/5 = 4 days
So the answer is option D.
