Explanation:
When nitrogen and sulphur are present in an organic compound and it is fused with sodium, a blood red colour is formed. This colour is due to the formation of ferric thiocyanate. The reaction involved in the formation of ferric thiocyanate is as follows:

1. Formation of Sodium Fusion Extract:
When an organic compound is fused with sodium, a sodium fusion extract is obtained. This extract contains different types of compounds including nitrogen and sulphur compounds.

2. Addition of Ferric Chloride:
To the sodium fusion extract, ferric chloride is added. Ferric chloride reacts with sulphur compounds to form ferric sulphate.

FeCl3 + H2SO4 → Fe2(SO4)3 + 2HCl

3. Addition of Potassium Thiocyanate:
After the addition of ferric chloride, potassium thiocyanate is added. Potassium thiocyanate reacts with nitrogen compounds to form potassium cyanate.

KSCN + NH4Cl → NH4SCN + KCl

4. Formation of Ferric Thiocyanate:
The ferric sulphate and potassium cyanate formed in the above steps react to form ferric thiocyanate which is responsible for the blood red colour.

Fe2(SO4)3 + 6NH4SCN → 2Fe(SCN)3 + 3(NH4)2SO4

Thus, the blood red colour formed in the sodium fusion extract of an organic compound containing nitrogen and sulphur is due to the formation of ferric thiocyanate.
