audit is an independent examination of financial information of any entity , whether profit oriented or not , irrespective of its size and legal form , when such an examination is conducted to express an opinion thereon .it contains four features1) independent examination - auditor shall not be influenced by clients 2) financial information - financial statements 3) entity - any form of business ( firm , company etc ) 4) opinion - whether financial statements shows true and fair view of affairs .
