What is the difference between reflex action and walking?
Walking is a voluntary action as when we want to walk we walk which means it is under conscious control of our brain .In this phase if we are walking , parasympathetic nervous system is in charge , which conserves our energy , but while walking if we see a lion , then our legs start to run rapidly , this is the reflex action , in this eyes send impulse to spinal cord and spinal cord sends impulses to muscles in legs to respond to the stimulus and legs start to run , this is where sympathetic nervous system becomes incharge and prepares for a 'fight or flight' , and against a lion it's a better choice for the flight!

Difference between Reflex Action and Walking

Reflex action and walking are two important functions of the nervous system. However, there are several differences between these two processes.

Reflex Action

  • Reflex action is an involuntary response to a stimulus that occurs without conscious thought.

  • It involves a simple neural pathway that includes a sensory receptor, sensory neuron, interneuron, motor neuron, and effector.

  • Reflex action is a rapid response that helps protect the body from harm.

  • Examples of reflex actions include the knee jerk reflex, blinking, and withdrawing a hand from a hot surface.

  • Reflex actions are controlled by the spinal cord and brainstem.

Walking

  • Walking is a voluntary movement that requires conscious thought and coordination.

  • It involves complex neural pathways that include the cerebral cortex, basal ganglia, cerebellum, and brainstem.

  • Walking is a coordinated movement that involves the contraction and relaxation of muscles in the legs, hips, and trunk.

  • Walking is an important function that allows us to move from one place to another and perform daily activities.

  • Walking is controlled by the cerebellum and basal ganglia in the brain.

Differences between Reflex Action and Walking

  • Reflex action is an involuntary response, while walking is a voluntary movement.

  • Reflex action is a simple neural pathway, while walking involves complex neural pathways.

  • Reflex action is a rapid response, while walking is a coordinated movement that takes time to perform.

  • Reflex action is controlled by the spinal cord and brainstem, while walking is controlled by the cerebellum and basal ganglia in the brain.

  • Reflex action is a protective mechanism, while walking is a functional movement.

In summary, reflex action and walking are two important functions of the nervous system, but they differ in their neural pathways, control mechanisms, and purpose.
