/s^2. What is the reading on the weighing scale?

The weight of an object is equal to the force acting on it due to gravity. This force can be calculated using the formula:

Force = mass x acceleration due to gravity

The acceleration due to gravity is approximately 9.8 m/s^2. However, in this case, the man is in an elevator that is accelerating upwards, so we need to take the net acceleration into account.

Net acceleration = acceleration due to gravity + acceleration of the lift

Net acceleration = 9.8 m/s^2 + 5 m/s^2

Net acceleration = 14.8 m/s^2

Now we can calculate the force acting on the man:

Force = mass x net acceleration

Force = 80 kg x 14.8 m/s^2

Force = 1184 N

The reading on the weighing scale will be equal to this force, so the reading on the weighing scale is 1184 N.
