Neutral Point and Horizontal Component of Magnetic Field

Neutral Point:
• The neutral point is a point on the axial line of a bar magnet where the magnetic field due to the magnet is zero.
• At this point, the magnetic field due to the north pole of the magnet is equal and opposite to the magnetic field due to the south pole of the magnet, and they cancel each other out.

Horizontal Component of Magnetic Field:
• The horizontal component of the earth's magnetic field is the component of the magnetic field that is parallel to the surface of the earth.
• It is also called the magnetic declination, and its value varies with the location on the earth's surface.

Relation between Neutral Point and Horizontal Component of Magnetic Field:
• At the neutral point, the magnetic field due to the magnet is zero.
• Therefore, the horizontal component of the magnetic field due to the magnet is also zero at the neutral point.
• The direction of the magnetic field due to the magnet is from the north pole to the south pole of the magnet.
• Therefore, at the neutral point, the direction of the magnetic field due to the magnet is opposite to the direction of the horizontal component of the earth's magnetic field.
• Hence, option D (both 1 and 3) is the correct answer.

Conclusion:
• At the neutral point of a magnet, the horizontal component of the magnetic field due to the magnet is zero.
• The direction of the magnetic field due to the magnet is opposite to the direction of the horizontal component of the earth's magnetic field at the neutral point.
