What are the types of forces
Types of Forces
  • Contact Forces: Contact forces are exerted only when objects are touching each other. Examples of contact forces include friction, air resistance, tension, normal force, and applied force.
  • Field Forces: Field forces act on objects without direct contact. These forces can be further divided into gravitational forces, electromagnetic forces, and nuclear forces.

Contact Forces
  • Friction: Friction is a force that opposes the motion of an object when in contact with another surface. It can be static friction (no movement), kinetic friction (movement), or rolling friction.
  • Air Resistance: Air resistance is a type of friction that objects experience when moving through the air. It increases with speed and surface area exposed to the air.
  • Tension: Tension is the force exerted by a rope, string, or cable when it is pulled taut. It acts in the direction of the rope and is equal in magnitude at both ends.
  • Normal Force: The normal force is the force exerted by a surface perpendicular to the object pressing against it. It balances the force of gravity acting on the object.
  • Applied Force: An applied force is a force that is exerted on an object by another object or person. It can cause an object to accelerate or change direction.

Field Forces
  • Gravitational Force: Gravitational force is the force of attraction between two objects with mass. It is responsible for keeping planets in orbit around the sun and objects on Earth's surface.
  • Electromagnetic Force: Electromagnetic force is a force that acts between charged particles and magnetic fields. It is responsible for interactions between electrons and protons in atoms.
  • Nuclear Forces: Nuclear forces are forces that act within atomic nuclei to hold protons and neutrons together. These forces are responsible for the stability of atoms.
