Let the printed price be P
If 40% discount is given, selling price = 0.6 × 60P = 36P
In order to make a profit of 20% the selling price

Ten toys are destroyed in the fire, the remaining toys are sold at a price such that the same amount of profit is made as in the conditional case
Profit make on remaining toys = 6P
Total selling P of remaining toys = 36P
Discount = 50P – 36P = 14P
Discount = 28%

If Fatima sells 60 identical toys at a 40% discount on the printed pri...
Given:
- Fatima sells 60 identical toys at a 40% discount on the printed price
- she makes 20% profit
- Ten of these toys are destroyed in fire

To find:
- How much discount should be given on the printed price so that she can make the same amount of profit?

Solution:

1. Cost price of each toy
Let the cost price of each toy be 'C'.
Selling price of each toy after 40% discount = 0.6x Printed price
Given that, Fatima makes 20% profit.
Therefore,
0.6 x Printed price = C x 1.20
C = (0.6/1.20) x Printed price
C = 0.5 x Printed price

2. Total cost price of 60 toys
Total cost price of 60 toys = 60 x C
Total cost price of 60 toys = 60 x 0.5 x Printed price
Total cost price of 60 toys = 30 x Printed price

3. Selling price of 50 toys
Since 10 toys are destroyed in the fire, Fatima sells only 50 toys.
Let the selling price of each toy be 'S'.
Selling price of each toy = Printed price - x% discount
Selling price of each toy = 0.6 x Printed price - x% of Printed price
Selling price of each toy = (0.6 - x/100) x Printed price
Total selling price of 50 toys = 50 x S
Total selling price of 50 toys = 50 x (0.6 - x/100) x Printed price

4. Calculation of x
Given that Fatima wants to make the same amount of profit.
Therefore,
Total selling price of 50 toys - Total cost price of 60 toys = Total profit
50 x (0.6 - x/100) x Printed price - 30 x Printed price = 20% of 30 x Printed price
50 x (0.6 - x/100) - 30 = 6
30 - 30 x (0.6 - x/100) = 6
18 = 18x/100
x = 100 x 18/18
x = 100

Therefore, Fatima should give a discount of 100% on the printed price so that she can make the same amount of profit.

Answer: (d) 28%
