Solution:
Therefore, the average speed of the aeroplane is 583.33 km/hr.
Given data:
- Speed from A to B (v1) = 500 km/hr
- Speed from B to A (v2) = 700 km/hr
To find: Average speed (vavg)
Solution:
- Let the distance between A and B be d km.
- Time taken to travel from A to B = d / v1 hours
- Time taken to travel from B to A = d / v2 hours
- Total time taken = (d / v1) + (d / v2)
- Average speed = Total distance / Total time taken
- Therefore, vavg = 2d / [(d / v1) + (d / v2)]
- Simplifying the above equation, we get:
- vavg = 2v1v2 / (v1 + v2)
- Substituting the given values, we get:
- vavg = 2 x 500 x 700 / (500 + 700)
- vavg = 700000 / 1200
- vavg = 583.33 km/hr
Therefore, the average speed of the aeroplane is 583.33 km/hr.
