Materials Needed:


  • Compass

  • Ruler



Steps:


  1. Draw a line segment AB = 6.5 cm.

  2. Place the compass on point A and draw an arc that intersects AB.

  3. Without changing the compass width, place the compass on the intersection point and draw another arc that intersects the first arc.

  4. Label the intersection point C. This is the vertex of the angle.

  5. Draw a line segment AC.

  6. Place the compass on point C and draw an arc that intersects AC.

  7. Without changing the compass width, place the compass on point A and draw another arc that intersects the first arc. Label the intersection point D.

  8. Draw a line segment CD.

  9. Angle CAD is 22.5 degrees.



Explanation:


To construct an angle of 22.5 degrees, we first draw a line segment AB of 6.5 cm. Then, using the compass, we draw two arcs with the same width from point A. The intersection point of the two arcs is labeled as point C. This is the vertex of the angle we are constructing. We then draw a line segment AC. Using the compass again, we draw two arcs with the same width from point C. The intersection point of the two arcs with AC is labeled as point D.
