  • a)
    It is possible
  • b)
    It is impossible
  • c)
    It was possible if boiling point of water was 200°C

Efficiency =1-[T(sink)/T(source)]
here T(sink)=273K and T(source)=373K
so , max efficiency = 1-(273/373)=26.81%
so 75% efficiency for this ...not possible

An inventor claims to have constructed an engine that has an efficienc...
B) It is impossible.

According to the Carnot efficiency formula, the maximum possible efficiency of an engine operating between two temperatures is given by the equation:

Efficiency = 1 - (Tc/Th)

where Tc is the absolute temperature of the cold reservoir (freezing point of water) and Th is the absolute temperature of the hot reservoir (boiling point of water).

Given that Tc and Th are fixed values (approximately 273 K and 373 K respectively), the maximum efficiency will always be less than 1 (or 100%). Therefore, it is not possible for an engine to have an efficiency of 75% when operating between the boiling and freezing points of water.
