Let P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, and W represent the eight people.
If Tarun is present in the ferry in the second trip, he must have been in the ferry in the first trip as well. Since Tarun has to travel twice between the two banks in this case, the number of trips has to be at least six (more than the minimum number of trips obtained above). The following table shows one possible way in which this can be done in six trips.
Hence, this can be done in a minimum of six trips.

Analysis:
The key to solving this problem is to carefully analyze the given preferences of the individuals and make the most efficient moves to minimize the number of trips required.

Steps:
1. First Trip:
- Pavan and Tarun travel together in the ferry. They both reach the right bank.
- Total people left on the left bank: Venky, Waqar, Qureshi, Ramesh, Sanjay, and Uday.
2. Second Trip:
- Sanjay and Uday travel to the right bank as Qureshi will not travel with Uday.
- Total people left on the left bank: Venky, Waqar, Ramesh.
3. Third Trip:
- Venky and Waqar travel to the right bank. Venky cannot travel with Sanjay, and Waqar cannot travel with Venky.
- Total people left on the left bank: Ramesh.
4. Fourth Trip:
- Ramesh travels to the right bank.
- All people on the left bank have now traveled to the right bank.

Conclusion:
Hence, a minimum of 4 trips is required for all the people on the left bank to go to the right bank and vice versa.
