Upendranath Brahma was an Indian Bodo social activist who played a significant role in the formation of the Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam. He was born on 20th January 1946 in Kokrajhar district of Assam. He was also known as the Father of the Bodos.

Early Life and Education:
Upendranath Brahma was born to a poor family in Kokrajhar district of Assam. He completed his schooling from Kokrajhar and later pursued higher education from Gauhati University. He was an active student leader during his college days.

Role in the Bodo Movement:
Upendranath Brahma played a significant role in the Bodo movement. He was one of the founding members of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) in 1967. He also played a crucial role in the formation of the Bodo People's Action Committee (BPAC) in 1986. He was one of the signatories of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Government of India and the ABSU in 1993, which led to the formation of the Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam.

Contribution to the Society:
Upendranath Brahma worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the Bodo community. He was instrumental in the formation of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, which promotes Bodo language and culture. He also worked for the development of education among the Bodo people.

Awards and Recognition:
Upendranath Brahma was awarded the Padma Shri in 2005 for his contributions to society. He was also awarded the Asom Ratna in 2019.
