If instead of every fourth year, every third year is a leap year, then...
Solution:

Finding the number of days from 2013 to 2020
- As 2013 is a leap year, the number of days in 2013 = 366
- The number of days in the common years from 2014 to 2019 = 6 × 365 = 2190
- The number of days from 1st January 2020 to 31st December 2020 = 365 − 31 = 334
- The total number of days from 1st January 2013 to 31st December 2020 = 366 + 2190 + 334 = 2890

Finding the number of leap years from 2013 to 2020
- In 2016, 2019, and 2020, the years are leap years
- The number of leap years from 2013 to 2020 = 3

Calculating the odd days
- Every third year is a leap year, so there will be 7 leap years in 21 years
- The number of odd days in 21 years = 7 × 2 = 14 (as 14 days make 2 weeks)
- The number of odd days in 1 year = 14 ÷ 7 = 2
- The number of odd days from 2013 to 2020 = (7 × 2) + 3 = 17

Deducing the day on 1st January 2020
- As 1st January 2013 is a Friday, we need to find the day after 2890 days, which is equivalent to 17 odd days
- 17 odd days ≡ 3 odd days (as 14 odd days make 2 weeks and 3 odd days remain)
- Hence, the day on 1st January 2020 = (Friday + 3 days) = Monday

Therefore, the answer is (a) Monday.
