Solution of Ramu sells milk after adulterating X litres of pure milk w...
Solution:

Let us assume that Ramu initially had X litres of pure milk.

Adulteration with Tap Water

After adulterating X litres of pure milk with 0.75 litres of tap water, Ramu has (X+0.75) litres of milk.

As Ramu sells the milk at cost price, the selling price of 1 litre of milk is equal to the cost price.

Let the cost price of pure milk be Rs. A per litre.

The cost price of (X+0.75) litres of adulterated milk is (X+0.75) x A.

Adulteration with Mineral Water

After adulterating X litres of pure milk with 0.75 litres of mineral water, Ramu has (X+0.75) litres of milk.

If Ramu sells this milk at cost price, he will incur a loss of 15% on the cost price of pure milk.

The selling price of 1 litre of milk is equal to the cost price.

Therefore, the cost price of (X+0.75) litres of adulterated milk is (85/100) x A x (X+0.75).

Equating the Cost Prices

We know that the cost price of both the adulterated milks is the same.

Therefore, we can equate the two expressions of cost price derived above.

(X+0.75) x A = (85/100) x A x (X+0.75)

Solving this equation, we get:

X = 5

Therefore, Ramu initially had 5 litres of pure milk.

The cost price of pure milk per litre is A = (X+0.75) x A / (X)

= (5+0.75) x A / 5

= 0.95A

Therefore, the cost of pure milk per litre is Rs. 0.95A.

As given in the question, the cost of mineral water is Rs. 12 per litre and tap water comes for free. Therefore, the cost of adulterating 0.75 litres of milk with mineral water is Rs. 9.

Therefore, the cost price of 1 litre of adulterated milk with mineral water is (0.95A + 9/5) = (19A+18)/20.

Since Ramu sells at cost price, the selling price of 1 litre of milk is also (19A+18)/20.

Therefore, the answer is:

The cost of pure milk per litre is Rs. 0.95A.

The selling price of 1 litre of milk is also (19A+18)/20.
